Question: Your a competitive person and are paddling with a high level rec team, what is worse?
You know there are people on the team because the team is short paddlers
There are people on the team there to be on a winning team?
There are people that never stop talking well the coach is talking
fellow paddlers want to stay in rec instead of doing there best and getting into comp.

Option E: The grammar in your post & poll.  Laughing

As someone who was on a rec team while striving to be on, and then moving on to a comp team in a very short period of time, I knew that the people within the team (at least the teams I paddled on) were all there doing their best with what they had available in terms of physical ability, free time away from work and family, etc. People would not show up for various reasons, usually something to do with life happening and them being recreational paddlers.  Yah, recreational paddlers.  On a recreational team.

On a rec team, you're generally going to have people there who are there for different reasons, thats the nature of a rec team. Sometimes a high level rec team is "high level" because of the overall athleticism of the paddlers, not because they're particularly good paddlers. If you're a competitive person and the rec team isn't cutting it for you, find a team that meets what you're trying to achieve in terms of performance and placement. Then work your ass off to get to their level and reap the rewards.

Never give a match up halfway through. Never say that you do not feel up to it, that your condition is bad, and throw in the towel. Fight to the very end, always looking for your chance to break through.

...yea reading the poll questions made my eyes burn! Nice way to put it Colossus. There is such a thing as spell check even in this forum I believe... Wink

Ditto with what Colossus said... you can also get an invite to join a crew if you are one who can commit and have great athletic ability. Those people tend to stand out and get invited. Or they create their own team and invite their friends that they know can commit and push the recruitment among their friends etc. Then the expectations are stated at the beginning of a training season and voila!

Teamwork is so important that it is virtually impossible for the team to reach the heights of it's capabilities or achieve winning results without becoming very good at it. You must practice TEAMWORK as a team, not as individuals!

Thanks for your input, spelling is important for sure Bern Man. But on the topic i like Colossus answer the best. It kind of reinforces my own thoughts. You just can't push paddlers to were they don't want to go. Laughing
