Option E: The grammar in your post & poll.

As someone who was on a rec team while striving to be on, and then moving on to a comp team in a very short period of time, I knew that the people within the team (at least the teams I paddled on) were all there doing their best with what they had available in terms of physical ability, free time away from work and family, etc. People would not show up for various reasons, usually something to do with life happening and them being recreational paddlers. Yah, recreational paddlers. On a recreational team.
On a rec team, you're generally going to have people there who are there for different reasons, thats the nature of a rec team. Sometimes a high level rec team is "high level" because of the overall athleticism of the paddlers, not because they're particularly good paddlers. If you're a competitive person and the rec team isn't cutting it for you, find a team that meets what you're trying to achieve in terms of performance and placement. Then work your ass off to get to their level and reap the rewards.
