I know Sept 5th is still quite some time away but I'm just curious to know as to which teams are attending?

The now famous 10 person dragon boats will be used at the Last Gasp Regatta. It is yet unknown for which race distances they will be used but they will be used. They are quite easy to operate as a steersperson. As mentioned by IronGiant in another posting other than feeling a bit tippy during loading and unloading they did feel quite stable out on the water. They did steer quite well and do seem to turn much faster than the 20 person BUKs. If used for a 1,000 meter races with a turn at the 500 meter mark they could make for a decent race time as compared to the 20 person boats.

I am looking forward to using them again.

How many teams have already registered for this event anyway?

Hey Ian.

I spoke with the race organizer and he said he tested the sight this morning/early afternoon and it works. Please try again. If you PM me I can send you the email he sent me as I discussed it with him just this morning about what you told me.

Cheers!

That was a typo. Not that I was able to find spell check but it would not have found it as a typo as it is an actual word!  Laughing BTW how do I get spell check anyway?

This just came across my desktop. Here's the race grid for this weekend's Last Gasp Regatta.

The race format is as follows:

For the 10 person boats, each team gets 3 races:
1 race Mixed (minimum 4 women) - 200 metres
1 race Women (8-10 women or 8 women and 2 men) - 200 metres
1 race Open (any composition) - 500 metres

For 20 person boats, each team gets 3 races: Usual team composition - minimum 8 women
1 200 metre race
2 500 metre races

20 person Optional 1000 Metre race for those who signed up.

This race grid is a bit bogus.

There was an option to enter as a 10-person team, now they post the grid and there's only one 10-person mixed race.

One race is mininum 8-women (teams that entered as a 10 probably don't have 8 women) and the the other race is open, teams that entered as a 10 don't have 10 men.

All the 20-person teams can field a 10-person mixed team so they should all be mixed.

You have a valid point as I did see the option to enter as a 10 person team as well.

I'm sure the race organizers/management will read this and act on it accordingly.
Its a bit of a short notice to change things for the upcoming weekend, but the next regatta perhaps.

I can see you point, but it appears that all the 10 person races are just there for fun/exhibition. If you're short two women for the 10 person Women race I'm sure there will be plenty of women paddlers from other teams who wouldn't mind helping your team out.  No one is going to protest if you use someone from off of your roster when the race result does not effect the final placement.  Or maybe they won't mind if you paddle all your races as a Mixed team, even if it is a "Womens" race.  In the end, it's all just for fun... there are no "finals" persay for the 10 person races.

The only issue I have is that with the two divisions (10 person & 20 person) there is the potential that boats may end up having to race back-to-back, and this will cause the races to be delayed as some crews will be on the water racing whilst their next race is supposed to be marshalling.

Fore example, the Winner of Race 10 (20 person) has their second 20 person race as Race 16 (12:00 pm) .  If this team is also one of the 4 fastest 10 person boats, they would then be scheduled to race a 10 Person - Open race as Race 17 (12:11 pm).

When I look at the grid, I doubt there will be a conflict with race 16 and 17 but there is a chance, just not likely.

As for the grid, it looks like most of the 10 person boats are 20 person teams so they should have enough paddlers.  When I look at the teams that are only paddling the 10 person boats, 4 of them are womens teams and two are mixed.  It looks like only two teams (Eye of the Dragon and Dogwood Nothin' Dragons) will be potentially short of women for the 10 person women's race.  It looks like the organizers looked at the team composition and tried to accommodate accordingly and still make it fun.

Too bad I will be out of town, would be fun to paddle in this event, lots of variety.
