The Navy Dragon Anchors will be hosting the second-annual Navy Chicken Run on Saturday 13 June at the Gorge Rowing & Paddling Centre in Victoria, BC.

If you didn't go last year, you’re probably wondering what Navy Chicken Run 2009 is all about. Well, first of all, it’s for dragon boaters, especially those who might want a change from the usual Start-Line-to-Finish-Line kind of race. It’s a series of different events which test your intelligence, creativity, boating skills, and so on. Unlike regular festivals, you just won't know who will come out on top before it all begins. Those involved last year said it was a life-changing experience and that they cannot wait until NCR2009. Some loved the challenges at the stations, some loved testing their manoeuvring skills, everybody loved the festivities afterward. It’s only $200 for your entire team and we promise you will have a fantastic time. For the on-water events, you can fill every seat possible (24 + drummer + steers) and there is no male/female ratio limit. We are capping this at 24 teams and are already half full.

Things to look forward to:
- A day of events on and off the water
- A great DJ and "beverage" garden
- Medals for the top three teams
- Navy hospitality, and...
- Rubber chickens!

Hello again!

Navy Chicken Run 2009 still has a few spots left.  Please contact me soon if your team is interested.

There are also a few registered teams looking to fill empty seats.  If you want to participate but your entire team is unable to, and if you will be in Victoria on June 13, contact me at [email protected] and I will put you in touch with a registered team who will be happy to have you.

For ten bucks each, you will get hours of fun on and off the water, ending with a great beer garden with music and dancing, all run by the Navy Dragon Anchors.

Hey Rob....the Wahines can take on a few extra paddlers if needed...


The Wahines have joined forces with a "rag tag fugitive" crew to have enough to float 2 boats.
We are looking forward to all that this event will be....fun paddling, fun thinking, fun beverage gardening, and most importantly....FUN !
This is not going to be any old day of racing with 2 500's and a lot of waiting around...and $800.
The $200 price tag and the fact that , really, we have NO IDEA what the race will be are the features that crank up the Wahines....good time FUN the NAVY way!

As the boats are millenniums we can have 26 people in each boat if we want so...the more the merrier...
So far in the mix for our 2 boats .....some Wahines, Blu By U, VOS, Pacific Reach, TD...and most represented the Chix with Stix....so,,,in a word....weirdness!

Perhaps we will need to have a dance off to decide our boat rosters but either way...THIS IS A DAY NOT TO BE MISSED !

What a fabulous, fun and unique dragon boat event.  Glad I didn't miss it this year.

Regarding your PS, yes, you officially owned that course!  It was close but your team set the fastest time in Event 3.

To anyone in need of a kick-ass steers: "Butter" (I'll let you figure out who that is offline) has proven himself to be one of the best.

To the participants: I'll get the final results out to my team contacts very shortly.  Thank you for your patience.  More importantly, thank you all for attending the Navy Chicken Run.  The energy, skills and creativity you brought was incredible, as was the gratitude shown to us during and after the event.  I hope we have you and more there for NCR2010!

I think the team will only get faster the more dead weight I lose...

At least I didn't try to come in backwards!?  Yikes!

I'll give them credit: They almost made it.  In theory it could have worked well but two people in the bow steering outrigger style and pulling out the oar entirely probably would have done the trick.

The damage to the boat looked far worse than it was.  I talked with GRPC today and the boat is already fixed.  Anything more than that shouldn't be on a public forum.  The team in question are a great bunch and they, like the others, did a lot for BC Cancer Foundation on Saturday.  All is water under the bridge as long as they sign up again next year and promise not to paddle so hard in reverse anymore!
