Where did all these crazy people come from? The beer gardens were already packed on Saturday afternoon! There were dancing fools everywhere! There is some guy in yellow crocs from Fluid Motion and another from Portland Fire Dragons... I wonder how they get their bodies to move that way! Great to see all the out of town teams in there. Apparently, they have never sold so much beer on the first day! Thanks for all your help, E&C! I saw you guys doing your part!  I hope that everyone is feeling ok today! Laughing

We had beautiful weather and great water conditions for the races. PI, NAVY, Save-On Dragonslayers, St. Keya, Dragonauts, Xtreme Reach, sssTeam Heat, and the Portland Fire Dragons have made it to the Platinum division. There will be some great races today. Good luck paddler! See you all in the beer gardens for the awards ceremonies!

WHAT??!!?? No news about some of the lower mainland teams over there? A bit biased ain't we? Laughing Are you able to tell me who all the teams in Platinum are? Or do you just know the ones you know/are familiar with? Thanks.

Teamwork is so important that it is virtually impossible for the team to reach the heights of it's capabilities or achieve winning results without becoming very good at it. You must practice TEAMWORK as a team, not as individuals!

Platinum finals will be:

Portland Fire Dragons, Dragonauts, PI, and Navy Anchor Dragons.

Diamond finals will be:

Extreme Currents (Kamloops), Eye of the Dragon, Fluid Motion, and Blu By U.

I also know that the Mana Wahine and Dragon Runners are in the Ladies Platinum finals.

I'm  not sure of the other categories....Sorry!

Gotta go back out to the race site!

Congratulations to all the teams. Here are some of the results. I'm going by memory so don't rely on my unofficial results or the lack of...

3rd   Navy Dragon Anchors
4th   Precision Impossible
5th   Xtreme Reach
6th   ssTeam Heat
7th   Save-On Dragonslayers
8th   St' Keya

DIAMOND MIXED DIVISION

3rd   Extreme Currents
4th  Fluid Motion
5th  Bastion Dragons

WOMEN'S PLATINUM DIVISION

Congrats to all teams! I guess Vancouver did not represent too well except for Eye of the Dragon in Diamond Division. I keep hearing about how great Nanaimo festival has been over the past 3 or 4 years but yet none of the teams I am associated with seem to want to go there. Heck I have an extra incentive seeing as my "outlaws" live in Qualicum. Maybe next year.

Once again CONGRATS to all teams who participated in more ways than just paddling!  Razz

my guess is that Eye of the Dragon will definitely be in the top final

Bernman, just so you're not too disappointed with your Eye of the Dragon prediction this is some more details.

After the Saturday seeding races there were 10 teams tied on points with 2 first-place finishes including Eye. The top 8 based on times went to Platinum (I'm not sure if they use cumulative time or differential time). Eye and Blu by U were the 2 that went to Diamond.

Eye won Diamond by 3 seconds and their time was faster than the Platinum B times and also the 4th in Platinum A so maybe they coulda been a contenda for making the top final, but it would have been tough as all those teams were strong. Dragonauts, Navy Dragon Anchors and Portland Fire Dragons were definitely the top 3 and all the others were also fast.

Unfortunately, in the Diamond A final, one of the paddlers for Fluid Motion had his brand new Carbon Fibre paddle break on the third stroke!
 WTF ??
So their time is not indicative of their effort.

What brand of paddle was it?

I was too distracted to catch that piece of info. The music was loud, the beer was cccold and my dance partners were looking hot... Cool

The paddle was carbon and I heard it broke in the ups. I also hear it wasn't the first time it has happened to him.

 Very Happy Laughing Cheers
I know I'm a part of a Nanaimo team ( Bastion Dragons) but great applause to the organizers. This is always a great festival. Great site--tents are on grass, lots of food and shopping choices and a well run race event. Lots of volunteers, loading goes well and they have a very touching caranation  ceremony. Good job to them.
A bit of a warning for out of town teams next year.--We hear there is a convention at the same time and rooms are filling up fast now!!! This leaves you with Fairwinds or Parksville as your next hotrl stops --so book now. I live in Qualicum--about 10 minutes further than Parksville and on a good time it will take about 35 min to the site--so I do suggest you take action now
