I was too distracted to catch that piece of info. The music was loud, the beer was cccold and my dance partners were looking hot... Posted on: Today at 08:18:00 AMPosted by: Special K Insert Quote What brand of paddle was it? Posted on: Today at 08:14:38 AMPosted by: Dumber Insert Quote Unfortunately, in the Diamond A final, one of the paddlers for Fluid Motion had his brand new Carbon Fibre paddle break on the third stroke!
OK just to clarify... as it was my paddle I know... It was the 3rd stoke... the blade is a year old and it hasn't happened to me before... And honestly I figure the team did a heck of a job being that close up to about the 3/4 mark... but when you're down a paddler and dragging an extra 250# of dead weight the gas just wasn't there in the end. Anyway... I have a story to tell... and I will hold off an disclosing the Paddle's manufacturer until I have the warranty issues sorted out

Here's a big call out to the Nanaimo organizers for recognizing womens teams this year - not only did we have a womens division for the first time, but the womens platinum races were right before the mixed platinum. Thanks making our racing count and I don't think anyone was disappointed with either of the womens platinum finals - they were both great racing.
Its our fourth year in Nanaimo and the fun never disappoints. Far and away the best beer garden of any event - our motto in Nanaimo "Life in a Beer Commercial".
Great weather, great racing, great fun. It doesn't get much better. And thanks to the Island teams who make us "mainlanders" feel so welcome. See you all in Victoria.

In regards to accommodations for next year...
I've mentioned to organizers that billeting might be an option for future festivals. This would save teams lots of money and might even mean that some teams who couldn't normally afford it would be able to attend.
Obviously, some would prefer staying altogether in hotels in keeping with team spirit/partying. But it could be an option for those who don't have the funds or who don't have anywhere else to stay.
And, it might mean more money in people's pockets for fundraising! (Or beer.)
I'm sure lots of Nanaimo people/teams would be willing to take in out-of-towners. It's just a matter of organizing it... And I know our organizers are already up to their eyeballs with tasks...

Just wanted to add my two cents worth....We came up from Victoria again for the Nanaimo festival and were not disappointed! Great location! Good food! Clearly a superior beer garden. And, most importantly, awesome race organization and scheduling and just an all-round great event with some really good racing. Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers in Nanaimo...it is always worth going to.

Like usual it was a really well run event. Everything went nice and smoothly. Marshalling was well done and the race starts seemed to work well as well.
The only thing I would like to see next year would be to have the division etched into the medals. It is a minor thing but years from now it would be cool to look at each medal and know what division it was won in.
Other than that it was a blast. Lots of fun and even more beer!

A perfect example of why someone on the crew should take an extra paddle onto the boat, just in case.

Another great event in Nanaimo for many reasons, awesome to have enough room to dance! The crowd was really into the filming for the DVD yesterday, can't wait to see it. I know the Portland team went home boasting about what a good time they had, their member known as "busy legs" was having the time of his life.
I would like to send out a BIG THANK YOU, to A1 Septic...what service on those Port a Potties. They would go in and disinfect with spray as soon as people came out, plus the TP never ran out, who could ask for me!
Good job by GO, Volunteers, Vendors and anyone who was associated with the festival, give yourselves a big pat on the back. Having the women's finals seperate was a great way to go and the Carnation Ceremony was once again, everything that is should be.
Our team, BrewCrew had an amazing time and look forward to seeing you all in Victoria.
KICK IT UP!!

I personally want to thank everyone at the races. We (Portland Fire Dragons) felt so welcome and it was truly a blast! The event more than lived up to its well-deserved reputation of being the most fun event on the Island.

Just curious....did you have any problems taking that lovely kayak home? I'm so jealous!
Thanks for coming Portland! Your team was a lot of fun in the beer gardens! Hope you come back again next year!
