FALSE CREEK COMMUNITY BOATHOUSE PROJECT

FOR

Dragon boat paddlers (yes, that’s you), kayak, canoe and OC

As many of you know, Dragon Boat BC has been working very hard on finding the space and the money to build a community paddling facility available to all citizens, even those who can’t afford expensive yacht club fees. We are closer than we’ve ever been before. Over the next 30 days lots of things are happening. This is the time for you to help. There are FOUR things you must do.

1. OPEN HOUSE

Thursday May 22nd, 5 – 8pm at the Roundhouse Community Centre Please drop by anytime at the Openhouse.  Look at the boards placed about the room, and write on the forms of your support for the re-zoning proposal of 998 Expo, that includes $4.6 million dollars in “community amenity contributions” coming directly to the building of new docks, on water storage and boathouse, to be built in three stages.

2. REGISTER TO SPEAK

May 13th or May 30th, REGISTER TO SPEAK at the public hearing. You can do this anytime that day, but do it as soon as you can. Speakers are up in order of when they register.  The confirmed date for registering has not been confirmed – that’s why we’ve told you two date options - but when it is, you should register to speak regarding the rezoning of 998 Expo. You can register by emailing [email protected] and copy (just in case) [email protected] or phone 311
Fax: 604-873-7419. Email [email protected] to be on our list so we can update you immediately.

3. COME TO CITY HALL AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT

Come and speak on June 10th, starting at 6 pm.

Address:

3rd Floor, City Hall
453 W. 12th Avenue
Vancouver, BC V5Y 1V4

DON’T FORGET TO BRING A PADDLE AND WEAR YOUR TEAM COLOURS!

4. WRITE A LETTER

Write a letter to Mayor Gregor Robinson and Council and tell they your paddling story and why you want to ensure that the boathouse is built. Be part of creating a legacy for our city. This is your big BIG chance to make a difference, regardless of your age, culture, creed, physical or mental ability, and financial resources. YOU CAN DO IT.

FOR MORE INFORMATION

Email [email protected] for more information, speaking points, sample letters, and info about upcoming strategy sessions and the new website we are developing for the community boathouse project.
