The Dragon Zone Paddling Club is pleased to announce our second annual Dragon Zone Paddler's Expo on Saturday March 9th from noon to 4:30PM at the Creekside Community Centre, home of the Dragon Zone Paddling Club.
 
The Dragon Zone Paddling Club Expo is a great place to try out dragon boating, meet teams, paddlers and visit vendors including fitness professionals and therapists. It’s a place for teams to recruit new paddlers, paddlers to find a new team and to attend skill workshops.
 
There are many ways to participate:

  • Try-out Dragon Boating! Your friends are welcome to try-out dragon boating at noon, 1PM, or 3PM. Sessions last 45 minutes. The tryouts are free but registering is the only way to secure a spot on the boat. http://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/creekside-community-recreation-centre.aspx
     
  • Are people you know looking for a team or information on how to start dragon boating?  – From noon to 4:30PM you are welcome to come visit the Dragon Zone tent and find out information about dragon boating and kayaking programs, meet teams and paddlers.
     
  • Looking for Paddlers? Set up a table to promote and recruit for your team between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm.  Experienced paddlers, lapsed paddlers, novice paddlers, beginner paddlers and the general public are all being invited to attend this Expo and many of them are looking to join teams. The cost to register a table is $20.00. Please go to http://register.dragonboatbc.ca/code/ and register. Limited number of tables available so book early!
     
  • Attend a Workshop
    • Sport Psychology
      This session explains the fundamentals of sport psychology and how it applies to dragon boating. Learn how sport psychology works, how to use it in training and how to benefit from it in competition. 60 minutes, Presented by Dan Hebert, 11AM – 12:00PM - $5
       
    • Team Building – How To Create Commitment, Motivation and Team Dynamic
      Commitment, motivation and a positive team dynamic are critical factors in success and they don’t happen by accident, there are tools that can be used to build commitment and improve motivation and performance. Learn goal-setting and team-building techniques to increase your team’s morale, confidence and focus. Sport Psychology is a recommended prerequisite. 90 minutes, Presented by Dan Hebert, 12:30PM-2:00PM - $5
       
    • Think a Misaligned Spine affects your paddling? Absolutely!!!
      Optimal posture equates to optimal paddling performance.
      Train more consistently with increased intensity when a chiropractor is added to your team.
      Prevent injury.
      Prevent arthritis of the spine.
      Prevent degenerative disc disease.
      A Clinic with Dr. Stuart Kilian, 40 minutes, 2:15PM-2:55PM - FREE
       
    • Race Strategy
      What race strategy do Olympic canoeists use? How can you apply it to dragon boating? Learn various sprint strategies in your start, middle and finish. 30 minutes, Presented by Dan Hebert, 3:15PM-3:45PM - $5
       
    • Maximize Your Practices
      Find out how to make it to the next level without paddling any more often than you do now. Get the most out of your existing dragon boat practices and come out on top of your peer group. 30 minutes, Presented by Dan Hebert, 4:00PM-4:30PM - $5

  • Come to the Wine and Cheese from 4:30PM - 6:00PM – Meet fellow paddlers
     
  • There will also be a steering clinic at 9am before the Expo.

Only two more days until the Dragon Zone Paddler's Expo...

Bigger venue - Creekside Community Centre Gymnasium
More vendors - over a dozen vendors will be present
More teams recruiting - Rec, Comp, Mixed, Women, Adult, Senior
Larger room for the Workshops

Take in the FREE clinic/workshop with Dr. Stuart Kilian between 2:15 to 2:55 pm
or attend any of the other four workshops for only $5.00 per session.

Tell your friends and family to come try out dragon boating at noon, 1:00 pm or 3:00 pm.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Paddler's Expo this past weekend.

Thank you to all the teams that participated by setting up a recruitment table. We hope that you got a few good leads to help fill your team's roster and had an opportunity to promote your team to the community.

Thank you to Amanda and her team for putting on the Scooter races throughout the event. Great fun was had by all who participated in the races.
