ARES DRAGONBOAT TEAM is a newer team with great energy and spirit. We are a dedicated group of young people (age 20-30) who set high standards for ourselves and strive to be the best we can be. Last year, we placed 3rd in the Rec A Consolation division at Alcan and 4th overall at the Harrison Dragonfest, with almost all of our team members having had 0-3 years experience paddling.

The sport of dragonboat is very much power-endurance with many instances of strength. ARES is a team that recognizes the importance of getting fit for paddling. In other words, we keep ourselves healthy and injury-free by cross-training regularly and building up our fitness with good warm-up and cool-down routines during practice, well-written workouts on the water, and sport psychology & sports nutrition advice for races.

This idea of training to get fit for paddling is the key to our success, and our knowledgeable coaching team will help you get started and keep you going.

Join us and you will get:
- Dragonboat AND Strength/Power coaching from 2 experienced coaches who collectively have 20 years of experience racing, 10 years coaching!
- Written workouts that are posted weekly on our online team forum, so you know exactly what we're doing beforehand (gym workouts included)
- Training using known methods to success - lots of exercise physiology & sport psychology
- The freedom to cross-train in any way you like (you like to run? awesome. ultimate frisbee? cool. Do what you love doing no matter what it is.)
- S.H.I.T. -  Short, high intensity training. Fun, explosive, powerful muscle building techniques!
- The knowledge and tools to become a great paddler, even if you've never paddled before!
- 20+ new friends, through lots of team socials!
- To experience the thrill of racing in at least 5 regattas this year. Everyone gets to race at each regatta, even if you're new!
- FREE 1-on-1 paddling clinics on DB, and small boat clinics if you're a member of Dragonzone or FCRCC.
- FREE land training sessions from a BCRPA Certified Weight Trainer, worth $50/session
- FREE gym orientation sessions, individual sessions on how to use all of the equipment and set your own program up for your needs!

We're looking for punctual, driven individuals who are familiar with dedication and hard work. We ask that you can commit to 75% of all practices (3 practices in 2 weeks) every Wednesday night (7-9pm) and Saturday morning (9:30-11am) from the 1st week of February to the last week of August.

No paddling experience is necessary, but members will be the most comfortable if they are physically capable and ready to take a challenge. Feel free to try us out at no cost to see if we're the right fit. Remember that we are NOT Cross-fit, and NOT a boot camp. If you don't think you're fit but want to be (and will try to be), no problem!  Smile

We're holding a meet-and-greet recruitment session in January, time and date TBD at this time.

If you're interested in finding out more, please contact me at kirbiechan at gmail.com. Thanks!
Amanda, coach
