Looks like we will have to wait until Sunday to race your team Kai Paddler.  Should be fun.

Is Lard Black and Red renamed as Guilda and Yolanda, respectively this year?

I guess it doesn't matter, LARD db shouldn't be taken likely anyways.   They have a strong pool of db paddlers in LA.

We've always registered two boats. But due to various reasons, quite a few of our paddlers can't go this year. We ended up with too many people for 1 boat and nowhere near enough for 2. So instead of stacking 1 boat, we are going with 2 even boats with sprinkles of guest paddlers from LA and Canada. It's going to be a rockin' good time! The goal is to have Chuck's Gilda beat Mike's Yolanda in the finals  by 0.01 seconds in whichever division we end up in. Most likely no chance at G&G race though. Sad

I'm upset that Yolanda is seeded lower than Gilda.  Clearly my boat is the better team!

Holy early start Batman!!!! I thought we made the women and the kiddies get up early and paddle the opening races?
At least we'll get to the beer tent before the women though.  They always got the best seats in the past.  Cheers

Who's idea was it to race the open division in the Gemini's?

They really need to get rid of those Gemini's. They are simply an inferior boat. All the mods done haven't helped, in fact in a few ways they've made them worse. (look at the scraped legs coming out after a race.) I realize its costly to have a all BUK fleet but something should be done.

On a positive note, looks like a strong field this year. Should be a real battle just to make the Comp A final.

I saw DZ grinding down the edges of the old seat positions last week.

Hopefully that will help,  if not then it will be interesting to see how bloody the dock will be after each gemini race.  Smile

All kidding aside...it's going to be a good weekend of racing!

If LARD has been evenly divided into two teams, then CAL may be the only California team that will make top 16.  They came 2nd in last week's CDBA regatta, placing ahead of Dragon Warriors.

Also, there is no Comp C / D divisions this year.  It's been switched back to Rec A / Rec A consolation instead.

Who is CAL? They are entered in the mixed division and are ranked first for their heat and first in the visitors cup. (Provided that lane 4 is the top ranked team)

No Comp C or Comp D?

That explains why it says only Top 19 rec go to Comp/Rec A (19 + 13 Comp teams = 32).  Didn't think that was enough teams to make up the numbers for the categories we have been used to.

I know plenty of paddlers who attach a status to being on a Comp team not a Rec team (falsely IMHO) who might be a little miffed to wind up in Rec A come Sunday afternoon.  Should make for some interesting and very intense qualifying races and semi-finals.

Comp A 8 teams
Comp B 8 teams
Comp C 8 teams
Rec A 8 teams
Total 32 teams.

It looks like Comp A, B, C and Rec A will be the top 4 divisions (32 teams). Advancement will be determined on Saturday's racing. Sunday morning heats will advance 1st 2nd place to Comp A, 3rd 4th place to Comp B etc.

What was Comp D is now Rec A, what was Rec A is now Rec B etc.

Still the same competition just different names.

Is your placement on Sunday determined by points on Sat? If so does anyone know the breakdown?

It would also be nice to know how seeding/lane assignments are formulated for the finals
