Dralion (drahl-ee-on) Dragon Boat Team is comprised of a fun group of outgoing and experienced paddlers within the Kelowna Dragon Boat Club (KDBC) community. Our focus is on expanding the camaraderie and teamwork associated with dragon boating, while developing our skills, technique and experience through twice weekly practices and festivals. We practice out of the downtown KDBC waterfront location on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7:00 pm. We are looking for dedicated paddlers (experience not required) who are willing to:

1) Commit to attending two practices a week (Tuesday and Thursday) starting now until mid-October;
2) Be an active participant in team fundraising events; and
3) Attend all or most of the team selected festivals for the 2011 season:
•   KDBC Dragon Boat Festival, July 9-10, Kelowna, BC
•   Banff Dragon Boat Festival, August 13-14, Banff AB
•   Penticton Dragon Boat Festival, September 9-10, Penticton BC
•   Rose Regatta Dragon Boat Festival, Las Vegas, Nevada October 8th

Cost per paddler:
$100 (60% due now; 40% due end of May); balance to be raised through active participation in team fundraising events. This latter amount will vary based on the final number of paddlers on the roster and the total amount of expenses once all the festivals have announced their early bird registration information.

Note: Travel, accommodation and incidental costs to all festivals will be additional expenses to each paddler. Accommodations are normally prearranged for the team and are based on group rates and quad occupancy whenever possible. Carpooling is also a possibility to all events.

Fee includes:
•   Registration membership with Kelowna Dragon Boat Club, which covers annual insurance and discounts with preferred vendors;
•   Use of KDBC equipment all year round including dragon boats and life jackets;
•   registration at all team selected festivals;
•   coaching with certified and experienced coaches;
•   group rate accommodation arrangements at all overnight festivals (each paddler is responsible for sharing the actual cost of the room based on occupancy)
•   organized fundraising activities to help you raise money to cover your costs.

What else do you get for joining the team?
•   Racing with a group of dedicated paddlers who love to have fun as much as they love to win medals;
•   Expanding your circle of friends by 400+ as a member of the Kelowna Dragon Boat Club;
•   Coaching with experienced coaches that will help improve your technique, endurance and experience within the sport of dragon boating!
