In the local newspaper, the festival organizers were expecting around 50,000 spectators. It appears that over 100,000 spectatos attended the HK dragon boat carnival.

Sounds like such a great time.  I miss Hong Kong.  I remember jumping on a practice with a UBC/UT alumni team who were preparing for a big race out in Stanley.  Open water, tail end of a tyhpoon, no life jackets, freezing cold.  The steers sit down to steer in that boat, and the waves were so obnoxious and had to dodge so many windsurfers, he had to get the last two seats to help steer so we wouldn't go over.  I was never so happy to get back to land.

Congrats to all who made it out.  Sounds like it was memorable!

I was all talk about Mr. Dragonboat.  In fact didn't really see what the beer competition was all about either, as we were pretty busy either racing or going to dinner.  I did see them filling a bunch of whale bones full of beer, and if that was it, that would have been a tough contest!

It's finally nice to be back home in Vancouver.

Over the last month or so, we as a CLUB/COUNTRY, came together and fielded a great group of paddlers to represent HSBC, FCRCC and Canada. 60+ people, 4 torphies, countless accolades from Hong Kong and International teams and a lifetime of memories = PRICELESS

From the bottom of my heart, thank you all and I hope to see you all soon in Hong Kong again.

In Hong Kong, they move 2 to 3 heats at once. Pure chaos but in some akward way - in control. During the entrie weekend, I only saw one team (i think the Austrialian's) scramble for their heat - this missed the premarshall call
