The date for the FCRCC regatta (
http://www.fcrcc.com/events/spring-regattahas
) is Sunday May 24th (changed from the earlier date of May 23rd). Deadline for early bird registration has been extended to May 8th. If we have insufficient teams registered for this regatta, the cancellation of the regatta will be announced on May 10th.
It looks like the FCRCC Regatta is in some jeopardy to be canceled. Considering that the Dash for Charity over the weekend had something like 49 teams participating, is there a reason why teams are reluctant to attend this race?
It's been pretty well run in the past so I don't think it has the history to warrant the lack of interest.

My team is going, so I can only guess why others are not.
Maybe holding it later this year, just two weeks before the Alcan Regatta, has affected some teams who would prefer their regattas more evenly spaced.
The fact that it falls on the same weekend as the Gorge Sprints may well affect the attendance of the Island teams.
And yes, this event is always well run. DWW did a great job last year, and I'm sure the FCRCC crew will do as good a job this year.

Mmm. My team's going, too, and we don't mind the event's proximity with the Alcan regatta.

I concur that the event is pretty well run, but the lack of teams participating could be because of any number of reasons...
I would think mainly because of the lack of funds (the economic crisis) which makes teams
more
selective of the races they participate in, some local teams might just not have the Spring Regatta as one of their events, what with the many choices of events to choose from this year.
And perhaps the teams that attended last year couldn't do so this year because of the lack of paddlers to fill their boat?
Dash for Charity had a significant increase of the number of teams participating compared to last year (30+ teams was it?) due to the fact that Waters Edge has made that event a part of the 2009 Race Series. (prize money is a great incentive)
I would also think that the gorge sprints does have a big impact on whether or not the teams over the ponds would attend the Spring Regatta. As for the proximity of the race date with the ADBF, its a non issue.

The theory that the date change may have affected interest in the regatta was just that, a theory.
Opting in or out of the spring regatta was not even discussed by my team, we consider this regatta an integral part of our RTADBF preparation.
The economic downturn may be affecting teams ability to do as many regattas as in the past, but I think it would be foolish if teams had opted to pay more to go to Deep Cove rather than go to the Spring regatta, just because there was the chance of some prize money coming back.

Yeah, the Spring Regatta is definitely essential in getting your own team some race time in the water and more experience, thereby giving the opportunity to tweak/perfect the team's race technique in a real race setting
before
the big ALCAN gong show. It would be a shame have the Regatta canceled due to low participation.
IMHO, the idea of having a race series is so appealing to me because, well its a
Race Series!
I mean its kinda like Formula One or World Rally Championship, there's a certain amount of satisfaction and pride in competing in a number of races with perhaps the same teams over and over again and possibly collect enough points to win whole thing...I just find that really exhilarating! (maybe i just love this sport too much haha). Although being able to perhaps win some prize money and some bragging rights along the way ain't too bad too lol

Thanks to all the teams coming, I think there may be a few more spots available. It should be a great event.
