We were having our best race on Sunday in the semi-finals, but it was choppy and we went off course. It was disappointing but these things do happen. We were all really proud of how well we paddled and most important of all, we all had a great time (at least I hope we did) and it was a great experience for me at least. Hope to do it again next year.

Great job by WatersEdge in Vernon, fantastic job by everybody.
Disappointing about the collision in the final, but we've all been doing this long enough to know that stuff like that happens in this sport, we just have to suck it up.
Kudos for a fantastic band, great beer garden (babes in bikinis getting my beer...did I die and go to heaven?), amazing weather and some terrific teams out there.
Less than 4 weeks 'til the Canadian Club Crew Championships in Calgary, we'll see most of you there!

Had a fantastic time at the festival. Thanks Watersedage and ADBRF. Can't wait for the Nationals in Calgary!!! Was a tough break for both ourselves (CRC) and Gorging in the final. But as we all know...that's dragonboating and it can happen to any of us at any time!!!
We both made up for it afterwards (with the bong) and I can't wait to both race and party with them afterwards again in Calgary.
What a great bunch! Great sportsmanship!
Same goes for Pac Reach, Without Warning, Sudden Impact...I hope you're all going to be there! You all put in some great performances this weekend. Congratulations...
I was also very proud of the great performaces put on by our other Calgary Teams; Topmade & Yahoo really showed their stuff this weekend! Scotia also come to mind as they also placed very nicely and had some great times. Great job everyone.
Signing off until the next event.
Thanks everyone!!!

Doctor, it is indeed our own bongmeister being crushed by his vile creation in that picture from the Alcan festival, as I cringe in fear in the background!
Beware, all paddlers...the three-headed monster is gonna get you eventually!
EDIT: I take that back! After looking at the larger version of the pic, it is actually YOU, DrG, being abused by our mascot in the photo, with Gunnar behind you and a third party finishing off this race (RoadRash, maybe?). FB/MagicPaddler would be the race marshall in this photo.

Backward Rowing,
I really don't object to you posting pictures of my wife looking hot, which she does, but could you not have the courtesy to photoshop me out of them! Good lord, talk about beauty and the beast!

Not to be rude, BR, but what exactly is the girl in the very last picture of that series doing to the (Gorging Dragons?) paddler...?

So is it true that CRC protested to get their 4th place finish?? My position is part of dragonboating is battling the elements... included in the elements are wakes... in particular I'm refering to the re-race that took place this past weekend.
Sweet Heat, would you clarify your statement. Do you mean that dragon boating is battling external factors outside the race; therefore, no re-starts nor penalties if caused by an external factor? or do you mean re-starts and penalties allowed because boats should take responsibility to adjust for those external factors?
What I was saying is that in dragonboat racing you're going to encounter waves/wakes or other boats going out of control, its a given. I think that is what dragonboat is about teams battling it out and sometimes unfortunate things happen and sometimes you get lucky, its kinda how the cookie crumbles sometimes. I just don't think that we should protest a race everytime something undesirable happens. I don't think there should have been any protests this weekend.

It was an unfortunate event that occurred on the water as both teams (Gorging Dragons and CRC) were having a good race up to that point. In all honesty I'm not sure what happened with the Gorging boat. From what I hear their steers person lost control and was unable to regain it (easily done with the Dynasty's) resulting in the front of their boat cutting us off. At first it seemed unreal and a complete surprise to both boats. It was like you could see this happening, but couldn't believe it was happening. Then the brakes were applied hard and both teams bumped (or should I say SMASHED into one another with CHAOS & MAYHEM running wild - for you puppy). Glad no one was hurt.
As for the protest as magicpaddler put it we were hoping for a re-race from the race officials given that everyone was running neck and neck up to that point, but to no avail. Rather the race organizers went with adjusting our time instead. Like all competitors we would have like to battle it on the water, but it was completely out of our hands. It really would have been nice to see what kind of time we could have posted in that race given the stiff competition across the board and that it was our best race up to that point (again probably due to the teams on the water).
No hard feelings and looking forward to racing against each of these teams in the near future.
I don't mean to be a pain in the ass about this, its just when I heard about a time adjustment I thought that was really silly. In what other sporting event do they do stuff like this? I'm sure that everyone will agree that just because you're in a certain position at the half way mark doesn't necessarily mean that you will be in the same position at the end mark.

To answer your questions:
1) It appears that Gorging Dragons men are more macho to women than I will ever be. Well, at least David (aka Nacho) is.
*
2) Since I don't have supertelescopic lens on high performance cameras like Lethal Weapon and Photog, I go stealth by sneaking onto dragon boats during the races and take video of paddlers who sing.
3) Team Storm is third on the wait list for the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival. Hopefully, I will see you all there.
********* and as we say in movie land - here comes the spoilers ***********
* The woman in question is his wife, who was feeling a bit overheated as the temperature was about 34c. David was comforting her in what little shade there was. And a shout out to them as they start to make Victoria, BC their new home.

I couldn't agree with you more. We filed our protest hoping for a re-race. The officials had re-run races earlier in the weekend. You are also correct in saying that where you are sitting at the 250m mark may have little bearing on where you end up at the end of the race. That's why we wanted a re-race, not a time adjustment. But hey, as many have pointed out thats the way it goes. No hard feelings here.

I saw a video of the Vernon Rec A final on this site, but none of the others. Does anyone know who would have a video of the Rec B final?
Thanks
