I made a request to the Alcan organizers to put our tent next to some other teams.  Alcan might not be able to have access to the Army tents this year due to the flood warnings.  Here's hoping the flood warning goes away but teams might want to make arrangements to bring their own tents just in case.

so on the news it seems like flooding is getting worse.  any updates that the tents are not going to happen in a weeks time?  a lot of out of town teams will be in trouble if the tents are not setup this year.

I'm a provincial emergency social services volunteer, and we're basically on activation now... hoping the flooding doesn't hit our local communities, but word today is its not if but when and how bad.  all the rain in combination with the hot weather we just had isn't helping anything...

as for the tents... there are enough local teams that can pony up and offer shelter to the out of towners.  hopefully everyone will be willing to lend a hand in the name of sportsmanship.  even if its just a dry place where they can chuck their bags and paddles.

in case anyone is interested in keeping up to date on the flood situation, you can get updates here:

Dear Alcan Dragon Boat Festival Teams,

As you all have heard, our province is preparing for major flooding. There is already a state of emergency in some areas. This has meant there is a big shortage of certain equipment that the society usually uses for the Alcan
Dragon Boat Festival. Items specific to the race include the large fleet of army tents that we use for racer's village. At this point we do not have the use of the number of tents that are needed for the village as they have to
be ready in case of the flooding and it is impossible to find replacements at this late date.

Many of you have tents that you take to other events. I would like to encourage you to bring your tents with you this year. We will
allocate the space for each team so that the village will still be
organized. If many of you are able to do this then the tents that we do
manage to get can be used for the visiting teams.

If you have something that you can use, please send an email to
[email protected]. This will help us to keep  track of who has what.

Sorry for the inconvenience. It is unfortunate but in this case, I think we can all understand the circumstances.
