Hey Folks

A couple of us are going to be in Vancouver next week and would love to get some time on the water. Any Vancouver teams have room on their boats and would be willing to let us tag along? Two of us - both paddle with Wasabi (she paddles with Huge, me with Warriors). We're nice people... really.

My recommendation is do NOT paddle in False Creek if you want to avoid the red tide, and the pollution.

You've already paddled False Creek for ADBF... go try something different.

Try connecting with somebody at Jericho Paddling Club for some outrigger in English Bay, home to some of the best paddlers in BC.  The 2000 winners of the Catalina Crossing outrigger race.
www.jerichooutrigger.com

or Lotus Sports Club for outrigger up the Indian Arm.  It is a gorgeous paddle past Twin Islands.  Why tie yourself down to a dragon boat when you can fly in an outrigger, or kayak?  Check out the July 1st Iron Man outrigger race.

Better yet - try the Tuesday night paddle races from Deep Cove - race canoes and kayaks.
This is where Team Huge came in 2003 for the Women's Regatta, after it moved to Deep Cove, from Deas Slough.  Everybody said it was sooooo  beautiful.

I like Wasabi people... I am friends with "Roadkill" - also I did some steering for Wasabi mixed and Huge in 2003.  Ask Jeremy, Kim or Roadkill for my contact number.

Gung Haggis is paddling from Dragon Zone (Science World/False Creek) on Tuesdays 6pm and Sundays at 1pm.  Right now we are having guest paddlers from Phillipine Youth Rowing Society  PYROS.  They are showing us how to paddle standing up, and teaching us a 6-60 start.  Yeah... not 6-16... a 6-60 start.

And bagpipes...

Portland has the most bagpipers per square mile of any US city I have ever visited.  Except for New York City for the Kilts Week parade.

Portland also has great proximity to Williamette Valley Wineries.  The Willemette valley rivals the Napa, Sonoma and Okanagan Valleys as the best wine growing regions on the West Coast ( and probably the continent).

James... too bad you didn't come this weekend.
You missed the Lotus Ironman outrigger canoe races....
17 km in Barnet Inlet.  Jericho Outrigger Paddling Club beat False Creek Racing Canoes Club, then the next day they did a sightseeing paddle from Jericho Beach, to Stanley Park,  past the Lion's Gate Bridge, to Ambleside Beach in West Vancouver - along the shore past some of the most expensive homes in Canada to Lighthouse Park - then back across English Bay to Jericho.

This coming weekend are races in Nanaimo... hop over to Vancouver Island and see if a team will pick you up
for the races.

Incredible sea kayaking opportunities on Southern Gulf Islands + Hornby Island, Quadra Island, Telegraph Cover, Tofino, Broken Islands + Bunsby Islands on the wild west coast.

Good chance of paddling beside a killer whale, if you go to Telegraph Cove, Robson Bight/Michael Biggs Ecological Preserve.

Speaking of outrigger, FCRCC has a novice program. We paddle Tuesday evenings 7:30-9pm and Saturday mornings 10:30-12pm. If you're interested, you should sign up for the Orientation Program, which will allow you to get some OC1 training as well as OC6. The cost is $50, which will be applied to your FCRCC membership if you decide you like outrigger and want to become a full member.
