It was nice to see paddler pix up here selling pics of the races on Saturday! They were really nice and worth the $$ (I can't believe they still shoot film!)
HEY! Where the heck is Photog!?!?!?
Nice, is that the company Ken is a part of from SF? Glad to see DG ousted this year regardless.
I hope PP made some good sales and will return next year. As for them still shooting film, i will speculate that they did so in order to have prints ready for sunday morning, as that way, the miniprinters at the lab do all the color correcting on the fly instead of the photographers doing it on the pc's.
This year I got picked up as the entertainment photographer, so I was tethered to the stage area the entire weekend. I did, however, sneak away at times to take some race pics. Boy were there a lot of spectators with impressive equipment this year.
yup, we shoot film because it is still more affordable, faster, and better color to process film in bulk to get the prints back to the race site for sales that day. this is surely soon to change as prints from digi are getting cheaper and cheaper, and the color is getting more and more reliable from the printers. still not sure about having a person chimping pix in the workflow yet, but maybe soon.
We strive to keep the prints affordable because all of the people at PaddlerPix are paddlers themselves and we like to sell more pics than high priced pics.
i personally wasn't at alcan this year but just to let you know PP will be back next year (festival permitting) with more gear and better prepared. usually we shoot film on saturday, and digital on sunday, but becuase of last minute arrangements and it being the first time up in vancouver lots of details needed to be worked out and shooting and sales were a bit abbreviated. all should be better next time.
There won't be any pictures online this year since no digital pictures were shot, and it is a royal PITA to scan all the negatives. sorry bout that.
i think it was lethal that worked with mike and gang? sounds like you had fun with the big glass mike uses. i'm a nikon shooter- so since i don't own that much gear, i rent. last year at San Fran i was shooting with a 600mm nikkor lens. talk about close up!
