Hi,

Team LifeScan, based out of Dragonzone near Science World, is looking for a steerer.

We're a fairly strong Rec A-Rec B team composed of 75% veteran paddlers (i.e. with 2+ years of experience), practicing Tuesdays and Fridays from 6:10pm to 7:40pm, and we're planning on participating on at least 2 festivals (Alcan in June and Kelowna in September) with a strong possibility of a 3rd festival between Alcan and Kelowna.

Coached by Walter "Snappy Recovery" Lau, the recreational Team LifeScan has consistently placed in the top half of all the festivals it has attended in the last 3 years.  Our emphasis this year is on "enthusiastic competitiveness" - having fun on the water, but striving for the podium in our class.

Our team is sponsored by LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company that makes medical devices for monitoring diabetes.  As a result, our goal is to not only to do our sponsor well (many team members are employees), but to devote some of our time and efforts fundraising for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, one of our main beneficiaries.

Benefits of joining Team LifeScan:
- company sponsorship (low low team and uniform fees!)
- support for a great cause (a cure for Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes)
- social events (we are well known for our after-practice Congee and Dim Sum events)
- great fundraising activities (we usually run a massive garage sale once or twice a year as our sole events)
- great food (with over half the team being self-declared culinary snobs, we eat well and we eat lots!)
- free weekends (practices Tuesdays and Fridays leave your weekends free for other stuff)
- expert steering training sessions available with our former steerer, Lorenz "What Me Worry" Plourde

Team LifeScan's requirements:
- Experience would be asset
- must be able to commit to practices and at least 2 Festivals
- Practices start March 7 and March 10, 2006
- Willingness and enthusasm to try Congee, Dim Sum and other assorted foods
- A sense of "disciplined humour" - focus when focus is required, but to join in the fun otherwise!
- Good appetite, above all!

UPDATE

Fees?  Did we say fees?  Sorry, that's my mistake - steer for us, and there's NO FEES.  That's right - there are no fees if you steer for our team!

Seriously, we are in need of a steerer - if you can't join up but can refer someone who'd like to learn, we're all for it.

Thanks!

- Marlon
