Gorge Rowing and Paddling Centre United Dragon Boat Team... who are hey? They kind of came out of nowhere. They seem pretty strong (finishing 7 the overall) for a first year team. Anybody know about them?

GRPC United is actually made up of several crews from the Gorge Rowing and Paddling Centre.  The majority of the members are formerly from the Dragonauts but there are also members from the Navy Dragon Anchors, Paddlers of the Fifth Moon, Precision Impossible, Selkirk Serpents, Xtreme Reach, and Crouching Dragon (formerly) - sorry if I missed anyone!

This is the first festival we've paddled together for though!

They are a combo of former GD and KOI paddlers with a few Outrigger paddlers thrown in who paddle out of the GO rowing cneter in Victoria

No, the GDs had their own team at Alcan, they weren't on the team that competed, we were a mix of the teams that I mentioned in my previous post.

Adding to that, The GD's were not all GD's  They were a team made up of Gorging Dragon's, a couple from Snogard dragons (dragons spelled backwards), Precision Imposible and Strange Brew.  They got together for this festival only

There were a couple of paddlers from Absolut Adrenaline on the GD's as well.

I thought it was a 'worst-kept secret' that Gorge Rowing and Paddling was formed this season as a competitive pool at the GRPC club - like Katy said, lots of Koi Dragonauts and great representation from other rec-model teams at the club. One former GD in the pool who's also the coach.

'GRPC United' a bit of a misleading working title for the team - not to be confused with a co-operative effort in past years put together from lots of GRPC rec teams, as a fun squad for out-of-town festivals. That's always been a really impressive project too, hitting the road after only a few practices together, different team members every time, and a great way to pull the club together and meet new paddling buddies. Gotta love the love on the dock at GRPC.
