YO ANGUS...Please tell me that your intentions are not to blame Ruckus. If anything there were
no clear instructions told or heard
during the race. If any racers were there, you guys would agree the volume on those thingamagigy those officals use to communicate were on low. So unless you were racing in the success boat or officiating boat or on the ferry or floating in the water or walking on the water, how would you know?
btw...All I need to know is that your intentions are not to make this personal, if you are blaming please provide some PROOF and not some statement that is your opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion...but if it is personal I am ready to Ruck.
I spoke to several people on the Success boat to get that info. As I said before, I was at the finish line when the collision occurred.
It is of my opinion that the collision between Success and Ruckus was caused by
A) The false creek ferry that entered into the race course on what appeared to be a collision course.
B) The lack of action on the part of the race officials to stop the race in this dangerous situation and the lack of a safety boat which could have prevented the ferry from entering the race course in the first place.
C) The decision of the race official who decided to order boats to go left.
D) The fact Success went left and Ruckus did not.
Take what you want from it. Feel free to misinterpret anything you want, I don't give a Ruck.

They should have either stationed a boat near the 350 meter mark to control ferry traffic or ordered all boats to hold and restart.
To my knowledge, they will only restart a race if anything happens within the first 50m. Anything beyond is tough cookies!

So what DID happen was that the officials boats were telling the boats to steer left to avoid the ferry - especially lanes 5 and 6. Lane five (success) followed those orders, but lane 6 (ruckus) did not.

Whoa chill out buddy, from what I interpret, Angus is merely making a statement of what happened, he isn't blaming anyone for the hoopla!
The responsibility technically falls on the shoulders of the steersperson to pay attention to the on water officals for any on the fly instructions. That being said, during a race I know the steers would be just focused on keeping the boat straight and nothing else. Sometimes they are so in the zone per se it is difficult to hear, with everything else that is going on.
Things happens sometimes, just be glad that it was just a regatta, and nobody got hurt.. You live and learn. Just let it go, and focus on Alcan!

Actually I believe some in this thread are upset so they need to chill out. I won't name names but it ryhmes with Kangus. They need to chill. They have little knowledge of what goes on. Enough wasted on responding to dribble.
As for the event, yep Saturday morning was interesting, both for racing and also for organizing. That is always the case in this regatta. This regatta serves many purposes, especially for the teams I know:
1. Get some racing against like teams (we hope).
2. The festival gets to try out new procedures and volunteers before the big event.
3. Build some excitement for the festival
So I think overall it was just that. I was there in the afternoon and it ran better. I was there on Sunday but just long enough to stay dry and it was ahead of schedule except for the fun steering on the water.
Anyways it was a good regatta and now on to the big show

Oops, Tiger is right. I forgot to mention that things did run a lot more smoothly in the afternoon. I really shouldn't focus only on the negatives.
Sorry, my bad.

BTW, does anyone know how the granddragons got a 4:00:00 in the last race? It seems like an odd time.

Oh I was in that race, I heard they had to make an emergency stop, but don't really know any detail.

They had to pull one of their female paddlers out of the DB during the race. Good thing was she looked ok when she was coming back to the docks in the zodiac.

The previous comments are just comments reflected by myself and not by my team. Yeah you're right I need to chill. I can own up that I made a mistake and sorry to those whom I have offended. Though I am new to these forums, I guess I got a bit defensive. I will be more responsible in the future. I do give a Ruck, I will bring the Ruck, and the Ruck will see y'all at Alcan. It will be fun to race y'all.
Peace.

My thoughts on what I saw

Saturday AM
a. Some good racing, I would say the PR has improved this year, less DB work more OC work seem to be paying off (maybe FCRCC was not wrong about getting out in other boats, hmmmm).
b. Comp division will be tough to get into. Teams have stepped up their paddling so it will be interesting to see who gets into what division. Whoever ranks will have an interesting time to try and get it right (least we be unfair and then get the wrath of the Eastern "Expert"
).
c. Seemed short on volunteers??
Saturday PM
a. Rec division looks about the same as last year, some have improved, some look the same, some have declined.
b. Regatta ran better in the afternoon, bugs must have been worked out or they got more help.
c. Ended on time which was nice.
Sunday
a. Wet
b. Interesting steering, bumper cars using DBs is an interesting sight.
c. Lining up was a little hit and miss. If you stood at the end of the race course, the boats were lined up all over the place (other than straight down the course). Maybe this is why so many DBs steered off course (or they took the Subaru "Learn How to Steer" challenge
, couldn't resist)
d. Seemed better than Saturday for the time I was there.
Overall
a. Nothing special, especially the weather.
b. No team stuck out but it clearly appears FCRCC Mixed and PR are the teams to beat. I would probably put Subaru in there but cannot tell as they haven't raced anybody of their calibre yet (are they afraid or still in stealth mode?)
c. Looks like the docks will be the same as last year, so much for the docks on the north side.

I don't recall seeing many comments posted from anyone by Ruckus. Not hearing much coming out of your team I always thought gee, that's a nice team. Heads down, get the job done etc etc..
Then you made your post haha. In the end, your post does reflect on your team but whatever, water under the Cambie bridge. If anything, this Regatta shows that steering might be an issue come Alcan. Saturday was eventful, but Sunday was off the charts.
Docks/Dzone moving to the North of the Ball might be a move coming next year still. Hope not though.

Some vids of the ending of Saturday PM races involving Team LifeScan:
http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=Race1End
http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=Race2End
http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=Race3End
Race 1 is Heat 2 (1:15pm)
Race 2 is Heat 6(?) (2:15pm) but don't quote me on this.
Race 3 is the Rec A final.
Enjoy!
Apologies to the boat in Lane 5 during Race 2 in the links above: as steers, I badly underestimated the push of the wind northwards and drifted into your lane as we were lining up at the red buoy. I did manage to get lined up properly by the start line, but once again, apologies for spending a good 2-3 mins trying to maneuver out of your way.
