question. were paddlers allowed to paddle for more than one team? most regattas have a rule against this, you'd think the fcrcc regatta was no different.
...but if that was a rule, to "overlook" that rule? at your own regatta? pathetic. help or no help, rules are rules.
Interesting...Pbs...are you referring to FCRCC and their women perhaps paddling on both the mixed and women's only team? Once again I do not know this information to be correct but it is a maybe. The pics posted should tell the story.
It appears this year some teams are willing to pull out all the stops to get themselves to the top of the podium. This would make for another great thread. What is your team willing to due to win it all?

so, let me get this straight... Roli could've been short 1 girl paddler an added an extra male paddler?
Did the women from FCRCC womens team do a double duty and paddled with the Mixed team as well?
I hope it's NO to both questions, because if it's a YES, I'll be so sorely disappointed that I might physically voice my opinion of such tactics.. especially for such respected "comp" level teams

Regarding Roli and the amount of women, probably they had 8 but it's hard to tell in the pic, as for False Creek... wouldn't doubt it.

Someone asked if Roli had 8 women and they did after looking at the photo, they are:
Seat 2, 3, 4, 8, 10 on the right
Seat 2, 5, 7 on the left
Looks like 8 women to me.
Not sure if seat 1 on the right should be classified as ???, especially after reading some of the other posts on this forum
Now I did hear that the officials checked FCRCC Mixed to ensure 8 women. They did. I wonder who asked for that check? Any bad blood out there?
As for the rules, yep there were rosters submitted but this is always classified as a warmup regatta so some teams do need to borrow from others. Usually happens with the rec teams and I saw some of it going on. I see this happen at the Alcan Regatta also, now at the Alcan festival it is not allowed. Really not a big deal as far as I am concerned. How many of you want to race 4-6 times in 5 hours, are you as effective in that last race, especially at this point in the season. I would view it as a disadvantage to race six times in 5 hours (and I have, just not yesterday).

sorry pbs, my bad, i was trying to use my team as a example, but i didn't realize u were referring to the actual hosts. however, i was thinking the same thing as secret if fcrcc women were also paddling on the mixed team.
in the end, i'd have to agree with tiger as this is a warmup regatta and winning doesn't mean too much as the real alcan festival. the fcrcc women were in our heat so after the "B" finals, they'd have to jump on the next boat as the mixed team was just heading out for the "A" final. so in the end, it would be a disadvantage for the fcrcc team.
remember my own opinion....please no flaming

It's interesting to note that Hamber did amazingly well by ending up in the Division C championships and posting the fastest time in that heat, ahead of TD Lightning and RGL United. Too bad they got DQ'ed for leaving their assigned lane.
Actually, Hamber (in lane 1) cut into lane 2 in the second race. If anyone was watching (obviously the refs missed it) you would have seen the United boat swerve into Hamber's assigned lane to avoid a collision. However, the refs redeemed themselves by DQ'ing them in the third race when they pulled the exact same maneuver (moving from lane 3 into lane 4) again. I guess the Hamber steers likes to drift right.
Angus,
For your information, the steers lady on the Eric Hamber Team did well. Unfortunately, she did loose control on the last race - thus the DQ. In my opinion, as a race official, she did not maliciously cut anyone off in any race. She was focused only on getting the boat from the start to the end.
It is not easy steering a Gemini. Further more, after she did loose control in the last race, she did bring it back under
complete control
. My hats are off to her.
PS...I hope she doesn't read your email, because that is a really mean comment to make against her. Especially a junior.....

Excellent Shots Photog!
With a little more than 5 weeks to Alcan all teams are showing it is going to be a kick a$$ race this year in Alcan. Looks like Gemini-itis has passed and all teams are adapting well and really starting to get those puppies moving! The big boys looked good and have definately raised the bar for everyone. The teams going for the race-off looked really good (too bad Subaru ,but the stealth dog thast was launched full filled its mission!) but I am anxious to see Subaru kick it in gear for Alcan. Good luck to all and while there were some suprises I am sure there are many more coming.........

Nice pics Chaos & Photog. Subaru looked great out there...they'll definitely be a team to look out for. Alot of teams seemed to have gotten stronger this year as well...it's gonna be tight competition at Alcan this year!
Speaking of comp teams...what happened to Scotia? They didn't participate in this year's Spring regatta. Does anyone know what's going on with them this year?

It wasn't really a dog. It was a seal in a dog costume

this could be an excellant racing tactic, chucking out puppies left and right while going down the course!
Roli - 8 women as always to set the record straight.
Interestingly enough there was another team out on the water where the refs had to do a girl count, but it wasn't Roli. I'm not certain why they bothered, I'm sure they had the 8 in the end as well, which they did.
Love your photos Photog, seriously someone should pay you for taking the time to record these events.

Puppy.......
Not posting on behalf of my team/steer, but she really did try her best, and went in total guilt trip after the finals. And if she did cut in front of United, I can swear on my grave that she didn't mean it, thus I will apologize for that.
This being her 1st year steering and her 1st regatta, she really did quite well. Oh, Puppy, thanks for your reply
. And Angus, you're right, our boat being pretty left heavy does tend to make our boat go right.
