I'm not sure if I got my facts right, but i've heard that the "top local team" at the Toronto Races goes on to represent Canada in worlds...?

Does anyone know if this is true?

I just find it odd that if this is true, that even if some of the vancouver area teams go to Toronto; they still Would NOT be eligable to represent canada at worlds?

Do I have my facts right or is this just the rumour mill working overtime?

You have your facts are partially correct.

FYI, to qualify to represent Canada in a world event, you are required to win your respective division in the National Club Crew event.  And FCRCC did send a few teams out to Montreal last year but they came up short against teams from Toronto.

Here's something off the TIDBRF site which might show where the confusion comes from:

Quote
19.  PRIZES

19.1  Premier Mixed Division

The following prizes will be awarded to the winners of the Premier Mixed Division (corporate, community, or university teams -- local or international):

1. To the overall winner of the premier mixed division (including local or international teams): The Grand Championship Cup

2. To the fastest local premier mixed team:
The fastest local premier mixed team will have the right to participate in one of the international races to be held in Asia in the following year. The team will also receive fifteen (15) air tickets to the destination.

3. To the second fastest local team in the premier mixed division:
The team will have the right to participate in the race in Vancouver held in the following year. The team will also receive ten (10) air tickets for that purpose.

The prizes are given out under the following conditions:

(A)  The TIDBRF reserves the right to determine the event.

(B)  The crew members of the team will be recommended by the registered sponsor, but the TIDBRF reserves the right to make a final decision on the composition of the crew members.

(C)  The registered sponsor of the team will be responsible for the balance of the airfare, and all of the accommodation, team uniform and other expenses for the selected crew members to participate in the international race.

(D)  Should the registered sponsor forfeit its right or unable to fulfill its obligations, the prize will be offered to other parties as determined by the Festival.

The local winner at the TO festival gets some airline tix to go to X place in Asia and race at some international festival...the 1st local runner up gets to come to Alcan.  How come we don't get prizes like that?   Rolling Eyes
