Congrats to the Gorging Dragons winning the Mixed final.  Too bad they couldn't have been lined up beside the FCRCC mixed team instead of being in lanes 7 & 2.  May have been a different race otherwise...  Have to wait for round two in Victoria.

Also, way to go FODB for getting into the final.  So what did happen in the final - steering problems?

False Creek women impressed with 3rd in the B final, and Laoyam with 4th in Comp B.

I didn't expect the Portland 'B' team to come 3rd overall. Wonder what happened to their 'A' team.  They made up for it in the mens final.

In a similar vein, congrats to the Roli Rebels for beating the Roli Dragons in their second race.  I bet you will remember that for a while.  Rebels came very close to getting into the A finals.

Now that the race is over, I think its time to burn the geminis.  I hope we never have to race in them again (wishful thinking).

I thought it was great that the Rebels won over the Dragons in that heat.  The basic truth there was that the Rebels were faster in Gemini's, slower in 6/16's, while the Dragons were faster in 6/16's and slower in the Gemini's.

Which is surprising, the Dragons had a good ADBF Regatta in those Geminis, so they apparently just lost their way in the run up to the Festival.  It took until the Comp C Final to post a competitive time in the new boats.

I don't remember the exact details, (don't have the grid in front of me).  but in that race where the Rebels won and DRagons were 2nd, I remember thinking they both kind of shot each other in the foot.

B/c if the results had been the other way around, each team would have ended up in their stronger type of boat for the next round, with both having a better chance to get into the A final.

I was chuckling about that one for awhile, but of course, what can you do?  That's racing.  Which just goes to show what a wise old seer once told me, the teams that can perform their best in either type of boat will do the best.

As a generalization, that's probably what seperated Comp A (and maybe comp b) from all the other divisions - those teams had both boats sorted out.

So PDX paddling was Portland's B team?  Thought they were.  Maybe it's not a true A/B format, where the best paddlers are put into one boat?

Loayam Eagles competed last year as the CDN National Juniors I believe, where they took the Comp B Division title over the Steamrollers by a hair.  I don't know what they put in their food up in Pemberton, but them sure are big kids!

I'm not surprised at all that the FCRCC women's crew did so well.  They had that Gemini sorted out early on, plus the usual top shelf coaching.

The Dragon's probably did lost their way in the Gemini's between the ADBF Regatta and the Comp C Final. I recall during their practices that the Rebels kept up with them fairly well after the Regatta.

Of course that that could be due to many factors... maybe they weren't mentally there until the Rebels delivered that wake-up call in Pool A Heat 3. Maybe paddlers were paddling injured.. Maybe their lead stroke couldn't handle the pressure of having to race in front of a crowd... Maybe the sun, moon and planets were aligned that day...

Not making any excuses since that's all part of racing.

That's got nothing to do with it.  I do know why though.
