Race Schedules
Race Schedules should be online by tonight (under Race Info Docs, ADBF Festival Weekend Info, 2004 ADBF Race Schedules). PLEASE NOTE: there is one pdf per division so make sure you consult all that apply to your team!
**NEW** Site Location - Science World
The festival is NOT taking place at the Plaza of Nations; please ensure your team knows that the site is at Science World this year (some people do not seem to know this yet!!). The address for Science World is 1455 Quebec Street, Vancouver, BC Â (check out their website for more info:
www.scienceworld.bc.ca). Other details re: festival and site:
We do not have a water sponsor this year so please come prepared to either buy bottled water onsite or fill up your water bottles in Science World (or McDonald's or Burger King across the street)
Saturday night - food will be available until at least 6pm, although vendors may stay open later if they are busy. All racers are welcome at the Saturday night event
Scoreboard will be located in Creekside Park, near the CBC World Beat Stage. Advancements should also be available at Racer's Services, but will be posted at the Scoreboard first
for more information, please see the race package handout - this handout is now online under Race Info Docs, ADBF Festival Weekend Info, race info
re: dropping off team gear on Saturday morning - sorry, we do not have a designated (un)loading area for paddlers that is near Racer's Village. Your team parking pass is good for the lot at 1st and Ontario
Race Package pick-up
Friday, June 18 - race packages can be picked up at Dragon Zone b/w 11am and 6pm
Saturday, June 19 - race packages can be picked up at Race Entrance (see site map) from 6:30-7:30am
RACING
Just a few reminders:
GPS systems are NOT allowed while racing
You may not race with less than 16 paddlers
You must have a drummer (it is not mandatory that they drum)
For the Mixed Adult Division - your team must have at least 8 female PADDLERS in each race Â
For the Junior Division - your team must have at least 10 female PADDLERS in each race
For the Men’s & Women’s Divisions - your drummer & steersperson can be of either gender
You may use your own paddles and PFDs as long as they meet the criteria in the ADBF Rules and Regulations (online under Race Info Docs)
You must wear a lifejacket/PFD and it must be zipped and/or buckled before heading down the ramp to the dock
Items allowed on boat while racing:
wax - on personal paddles
gloves, hats, sunglasses, kneepads
small fanny packs
water bottles
extra paddles (limit to 2, if possible)
seatpads thinner than a mouse pad
for the Women’s and Men's Divisions only, teams are allowed to use a Cox Vox / speaker system
if in doubt, ask the Race Registrar
Items NOT allowed on the boat while racing:
GPS systems
wax - on festival paddles (purple stripes)
large bags or knapsacks
seat pads thicker than a mouse pad
Noise “enhancers” – e.g., megaphones, whistles, horns etc.
if in doubt, ask the Race Registrar
Protest Procedures - if your team wants to lodge a race protest, talk to the Race Registrar right after your race. All protests must be submitted in written form (provided upon request) to the Race Jury and a fee of $50 will be levied for each protest (rebated if protest is upheld). Please note that "There will absolutely be no grounds for re-races once all boats have passed the 50 meter mark, except one that is initiated by Officials under extraordinary circumstances." For more info on this topic, please consult the Penalties, Protests and Appeals section of the ADBF Rules and Regulations.

New marshalling re: change in site location:
Teams should be at the pre-marshal area (on the Dragon Zone side of Science World) 20 minutes prior to their scheduled race time - there will be a Paddler's Only gate from the edge of site into the marshalling area. Please line your team up back to front, with your drummer and steersperson in the lead. Teams will exit through the gate into the pre-marshal area, which runs along the seawall towards Dragon Zone and the dock.
**IF YOU ARE IN ONE OF THE FIRST 2 HEATS OF THE DAY (most likely these will be junior division races) please be at the pre-marshal area 30 minutes prior to your scheduled race time
Teams that are not in the pre-marshal area at the appropriate time will get one call via the PA system in Racer’s Village, but only if time allows. We are not sure how loud the PA system will be in Racer's Village, so please listen closely when announcements are made. Ultimately it will be up to your team manager to know when you are racing and when you have to be at pre-marshal
>From pre-marshal, you will continue along the seawall (there's really nowhere else for you to go!) to pick up your equipment (paddles and pfds) and then on to the crew marshal where you will wait until one of our volunteers directs you to the dock
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOUR DRUMMER AND STEERSPERSON KNOW WHAT HEAT/RACE NUMBER YOU ARE IN. You will either be in a Gemini heat (Gemini boats will have the dragon heads and tails) OR a 6/16 heat (6/16 boats will NOT have heads and tails). This makes it easy to tell if you are lining up for the correct heat. But don’t worry, we will be reminding you about which heat you are in each step of the way
Once on the water, please head directly to the start line along the south side of False Creek (i.e., you will leave the dock and turn left right away, going in a clockwise motion and staying clear of the race course)
VISITING TEAMS
Friday Practice
If you have scheduled a practice with me for Friday, June 18, please go straight to Dragon Zone - located one minute away (on foot) from Science World. If you are facing Science World and the water, look to your left along the seawall and you will see a large green trailer - this is Dragon Zone. On the site map (online under Race Info Docs), look for the 'Dock' area on the left-hand side - Dragon Zone is right above the dock. If you need parking (Friday only), you can park for free in the lot at First and Ontario, which is right behind Dragon Zone. On the weekend, only one car per team can park in this lot and they must display the parking pass that is given out in the race package.
most of you are arriving on Friday and have requested a practice time between 3 and 5:30pm. Therefore, it will be very busy at the crew marshalling and dock area. boat loading will be done on a first-come, first-served basis within your scheduled practice time.
for those of you practicing on or around 4pm, the dragon boat blessing ceremony will be taking place at the docks at this time - we ask for your patience as this may require you to wait when loading or unloading your boat
Race Package pick-up
Friday, June 18 - race packages can be picked up at Dragon Zone b/w 11am and 6pm
Saturday, June 19 - race packages can be picked up at Race Entrance (see site map) from 6:30-7:30am

The office will be moving to site on Wednesday, so you may find that replies to email and voicemail are slower than usual. I will not be checking email Thursday or Friday during the day, but will check it at night - I apologize now if I do not have time to reply. See you on the weekend.
