Well now that March is finally upon us, I notice more teams on the water these days..

FCRCC is fielding a men's team to be racing in the Men's Division of Alcan.
Strathcona and Dangerous When Wet are going the Comp/Rec teams route with DWW being their comp team and Strath or is it now DWW2 being their rec team.  I wonder where does TCC Carib fit in terms of Wayne's teams?

But each year, one or two teams pack it in. Usually they lose the desire, have friction, lose a sponsor or move on to something else.

Here's what I've heard so far...
Blind Fury is no more as Eye of the Dragon has absorbed their paddlers.
Heard that there will only be two Nokia Dragon Hearts teams that will be entering the racing field.  Their third team will be a "Sunday Paddling" boat that will paddle for fitness and is non-competition based.
I haven't heard anything about Adrenaline this year.. are they still around?

Are there any other teams that are fading into history and if so what is the reason? If you're really brave and like the idea of looking over your shoulders at festivals.... Who SHOULD be packing it in?  Twisted Evil

I belonged to Adrenaline for a long time, and felt the need to <move on> this year, so I've switched teams.   From what I've heard, there were a lot of people on the team who felt the same, and have either switched teams or dropped the sport completely this year.

I suspect that Adrenaline will not be a team in the festival this year, but I could be wrong.

That's an unfortunate turn of events for Adrenaline.  I had paddled with them when they were the SFU team back in '97... I think some of the people I paddled with were still with the team as of last year.  Makes me wonder where those people are now...

We still haven't formalized our name yet, but it's Team Specialty Subaru Strathcona's Dangerous When Wet for the club at this time. Laughing It's quite a mouthful.

This year, Wayne is just coaching our teams and not TCC.

Dario from Roli took over as coach for wayne on TCC ...........and a a few of TCC paddler's stepped up to more competitive teams. 2 went to Pacific Reach and 1 went to Acme

Pacific Reach also formed a club team. There are now 2 teams Pacific Reach and Pacific Reach Echo. Both will compete as 2 mixed teams in what appears to be the comp divisions and also switch to form 1 mens and 1 womens team as well .

Pacific Reach is still looking for Male Paddlers to join their crew.Team commitment & team work is key as is fun .These are serious teams and for those of you that think they have what it takes to be part of a winning team and have the attitude and fitness level required to support such a crew pls reply to:

Dario from Roli....who the hell is he????  What experience does he have??? Wow.....that team isn't going anywhere with that guy.....especially if he's got no history.  Poor TCC Carib.  TCC won the Rec "A" last year....and now what are they going to do with him...Rec "E"...ha ha ha.

Pacific Reach wants two teams huh????.....WHY....they couldn't BEAT ROLI CIBC or ALPHA last year.  Nor could they beat the Gorging Dragons in Calgary...so now they are going to have an even weaker team......silly bunch of paddlers.  I also heard a rumour that their coach Rob Varnell won't let any of their paddlers coach any teams....now that is pathetic.  But I would agree too....I wouldn't want to teach other teams how NOT to paddle and train properly either.....to see two teams look lousy is plenty enough for me.!!!!!

Rob is a awesome coach and he has taught alot of people some pretty awesome stuff and we all have alot of respect for him.All my coaches have been very good but Rob in peticular is nothing short of impressive .

TCC will do fine w/ Dario ,they are an experienced team and have been together for some time now. They did lose a few paddlers who stepped up as many others have have done in the past .This is a team you never want to under estimate because they are very able to pull it all out when needed as we witnessed last year .TCC has an awesome attitude and team spirit which guides them to where they are now .

Dario coaching TCC for Wayne is news to me.  That's the first time I've heard that and if it's true then it should be pretty interesting to see where he takes them.  I find it odd that TCC paddlers didn't go to DWW since they have two teams (one of which, they are still looking for paddlers) and are both still coached by Wayne.

Guido, for someone that seems to be so aware of the dragonboat community, you don't know who the coordinator of the DragonZone practice facility is? Anyways, Dario's probably been involved in dragonboat for as long as I can remember, coaching junior teams to top placements before the Laoyam Eagles arrived on the scene. He also was the assistant coach for Roli for last year. I'm pretty sure TCC will do fine with him coaching...

Dario is coaching TCC.  He told me a few days ago.

I suspect that TCC paddlers didn't join up with our club cause we don't party as much and we're getting way serious this year.

I think Adrenaline finally folded this year.  Sad

A few of their paddlers are with us on TD...rumour has it that quite a few others have jumped aboard M-Power, but generally they seem scattered around to various other teams.

Dario's up there with some of the best coaches around False Creek.  I'm sure most people who know what they're talking about know of him and his experience/involvement in the dragonboat community.

Hmm...maybe I'm mistaken there.   Confused

Mercedes was looking for new paddlers this year as well...hmm.

I'll stick to my story of Adrenaline paddlers scattered around to various teams then.   Thinking

Hey Kibble.....Adrenaline did fold....heard through the grapevine Denise couldn't get enough returning.  I think I may have seen one on FODB actually.....not too sure though.

I also heard Gung Haggis isn't going to have a team either.  Another rumour has it that the numbers are really down this year.....down about 20 teams from last year.   Also heard that teams from Victoria don't want to come here cause they don't like the races here.....I say all the Vancouver teams should BOYCOTT Victoria.....or ......we go over and leave a bunch of squatter boats in St. James Bay....ha ha ha

Getting back to this Dario thing.....what makes him one of the better coaches....has he ever coached a team to a top 3 finish????  How long has he been around????  Sheesh....where did he learn to paddle....has he even paddled before in his life????

On a side note, after 1 year with StirStix.  The team could not repeat again in 2004 due to few number of people returning.  However, we hope to revive it in the future.

ok, now back to the flame war....
