Now that was fun. Dragon-boating is like rugby or bluegrass, as much about being part of a big family as it is about individual or team performance. It’s what makes Paddler Village such an uplifting place to be. You paddlers may be too close to it to see it, or realize how special it is where teams compete against each other on the water then compete to see how much they can support each other off it. While I’m sure there must be examples, not once since I started packing the megaphone in 1998 have I seen or heard bad words between teams. Not so in fast pitch or other sports I've been part of.

Thank you for allowing me, a non-paddler, to be part of the dragon boat family. After 11 hours of sleep I still feel like a dirty dishrag squeezed almost dry, and don’t get me started about my throat. But I’d do it again tomorrow, or, well, maybe next week. I had a wonderful weekend.

So, to everyone who said thank you to me on Sunday, or gave me so many compliments, it really should be me thanking you. It’s a special privilege to be invited into such a warm, friendly and fun family, and I am honored to be part of it.

Cheers,
Crew Marshal Greg
