Coach

Hydro Dragons is looking for a coach for the 2014 season.

Hydro Dragons is a mixed recreational team composed of employees of BC Hydro and its affiliates. We are independent in that we are not sponsored or funded by the company on an ongoing basis.  There is a core of 14-16 paddlers and we recruit new members each year from within the organization. Our team philosophy is to “meet new people, get on the water and get in shape while having fun”.

The team traditionally practices Wednesdays at 6 pm and Sundays at 11 am out of the Dragon Zone at False Creek. We are open to discussing new days and times.  Our season starts in March and continues until August or September, depending on the festivals the team decides to enter each year. This year we had 46 practices; the number next year will depend on our race schedule.

We focus on process, on racing well, controlling what we can and letting results take care of themselves. Our efforts have resulted in finishes at the “C” division rank and we are currently looking to “up our game” within the framework of our team philosophy. In 2014 our goal is to enhance technique and fitness to levels that will raise our overall performance by 10%. For instance, in 2013 at Alcan we finished in the top 68% of participating teams.  In 2014, our objective will be to race at a level that could result in placing in the top 58%. Specific objectives for each event will be developed in consultation with the coach, as well as for the conditioning, endurance and technique training required to meet our goal.

If you have the ability and passion to help us achieve our goals, please submit an expression of interest, a coaching resume and an indication of fee expectations to:
