Do Dragon Boat Team Names Need to Be Original?

Here's a question since I am fairly bored, and I can't seem to sleep right now.
Do dragon boat team names need to be original? It's really cool if your team name is a unique, such as FCRCC High Performance because there is only one FCRCC or Dragon Zone Twisted Hips because it's a cool original name.
My paddling team has been around over a decade on the Canadian west coast. People have heard of this team if they are part of the local paddling community. Is it cool that another dragon boat team from the Canadian west coast has taken our name for an outrigger canoe race? Keep in mind that my team has never participated in va'a race. Is the comparison really apples and oranges?
The team name itself is used in Vancouver-area by a girls soccer team, a sailing crew and minors hockey according to Google. It is a fairly common name for not only sports, but company divisions as well. And it's not like my team has trade-marked the name for sponsorship purposes. Also, if they named their team "women's-crew", it would be boring.
So, when is duplicating a name a big deal? Thoughts?

One of the first things we did when coming up with a team name was googling them. Try our best to see that the name wasnt used by anyone else. If there is another team with the same name as yours and they go to a festival seasons before you, it can effect peoples perception of you. If they were jerks, other teams will assume you are the same team and treat you poorly. If they were better, people could assume your team has fallen apart as you are not doing aswell.
Just trying to make your mark as a team is difficult enough without another team changing outside opinion

It ultimately depends on how the people on your team feel about representing that name. Does your team feel proud that they've been a recognizable part of the community for a decade? Many many paddlers I'm sure have come and gone during that time, building the reputation of your team's name. Or perhaps they feel they have a totally different identity and feel the desire to be more unique.
A name in itself will always be shared with another organization, it happens. Outside the scope of a certain community, a team name means nothing.
You could win every festival there is to win, paddlers could be in awe at the slightest mention of your team, but what does that team name mean to the stranger that doesn't know anything about dragon boat?

Storm is such a common name. Similar to 1001 combinations with the word "dragon" for dragonboat. Plus many recreational outrigger team names are made up on the fly.
I don't think it's a big deal.

There is also a dragonboat team called Riptide in the east coast. We joke that they are our east coast chapter, but they are not
It is what it is, you can't do anything about it. The people in the "know" will recognize the general people on the team anyways and know it isn't you.
Like if a random junior team decided to enter a race as FCRCC High performance... the name is the same, but it's not going to fool anyone really.
On a side note, Riptide is also the name of a beer

If the reason a team used someone else's name is malicious, then it wouldn't be okay.
I think if they had no idea, and if it's a common name like Storm, then it's fine.
Although truthfully if another team took the name Ares (as common as it may or may not be) knowing that there is another team called Ares, I'd probably contact them and ask about that.

Thanks for the replies. No, I don't think Sudden Impact was being malicious, it is probably just trying to come up with an outrigger name for their women's team on the fly. And if they win their race, I doubt anyone in outrigger racing would confuse them with Team Storm dragon boat crew.

Apologies in advance to Team Storm for what looks like the hijack of your name. Sudden Impact Storm is a new Senior B Women's team which has recently formed. The team was aware that Team Storm exists but was hopeful that Sudden Impact Storm would be sufficient to differentiate itself from another similarly named and totally awesome team. So, to dispel any rumours, there was no malicious intent. It's just that if you have ever paddled at Cultus, you'd know how absolutely appropriate S.I. Storm is. Should anyone wish to speak about this, please feel free to contact me and I'll connect you with the team captain
