Greetings,

We are wondering if there are any teams out there that had the same problem that LARD had with the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association (HKDBA).

LARD registered for the Celebration Dinner at the recently held CCWC in Hong Kong. HKDB required us to pay in advance for the dinner which we did. Despite not only wiring $5,821.91HK to HKDB in advance and showing proof of the payment, HKDB would not allow our team to attend the dinner. We were forced to make last second dinner plans for approximately 50 people.

Upon returning to the US, our captains attempted to get the money refunded but have been unsuccessful. At first, our requests were flat out ignored, now HKDB is blaming IDBF. We still have not been refunded the money HKDB has had since July. All we want is our money back. It is also reasonable that HKDB pay for any transaction fees that we had to pay.

To date, we have still not received a refund. Are there any other teams out there that are facing the same problem? If so, please email LARD's captains at captains(a)laracingdragons.org.

Thanks.

Wow. I wasn't there but that's terrible. I hope you get your money back.  Confused

I think this is highly unusual from large organization such as HKDB. I am not always surprised with dealing with HK or other Chinese organizations, because I have heard similar stories from other people time to time with other organizations. Some of them are given bad reviews and go as far to protest in front of their future events or their front office doorsteps.

I never attended the HKDB or the IDBF dinner events there before. However I am a registered dragon boat athlete in order for me to compete in any dragon boat racing there. It is unfortunate to hear another story like this about large organizer such as HKDB.

In HK it seems much of their events are highly unorganized and I could never get a full years racing schedule out of any dragon boat organizations there. They only list the IDBF and not the other smaller localized races until about 1 month before the event is actually posted. I am not sure if that is a Chinese thing or just HK thing. I might be interested in joining an expat team there on my next visit and fine tune my skills to a higher level, however I can not seem to find much information or team info in English. I want to try out some teak boats and the 44 man teams there for experience.

Wilddragonfury,

Get in contact with the Lamma Dragons over there (lammadragons.com).  They're a great bunch of people and know of all the dragon boat and outrigger races in the area.

Rob.
