I heard a weird rumour at Ice Breaker that they are moving Kelowna Festival to July this year and it would conflict with Nanaimo.  It doesn't seem like a brilliant plan to me but I'm not sure how many other teams actually go to both festivals.  Maybe that would actually save this sinking festival.  Then again, so would charging a reasonable amount for team entry.

Like I said, what I heard was just a rumour.  I'm sure we'll hear soon if it's true or not.

There is a July date on a website that says it is the Kelowna Dragon Boat CLUB.
Can't tell if it's the same group or not.
Very weird though, and I can't find a date for the regular Sept festival now.

This is not the same festival as the  previous Kelowna festival that we are all familiar with , if you look on the K.D.B.C. website they held a dragon boat festival last year on July 10/10 which was a completely different festival then the usual Sept festival .

They are two different festivals - The Annual July Festival is a hosted by the Kelowna Dragon Boat Club, Coming into its 6th year,  it originally started as a one day women's festival; this year it has expanded to a two day festival with mixed, ladies, seniors and Junior divisions. The festival will also include a Steerers Challenge and 1000m race. Guaranteed fabulous weather, Beer Garden, great bling, and fabulous music - cost is $600 per team.

The Kelowna Dragon Boat Festival is held in September and ran by a promoter. Decision to hold the festival this year or not was to be made by yesterday... Last year, only 89 teams participated, down from the 140+ teams of years past.  Festival fees start around $1300.

Looks like the Kelowna festival has been changed to August 27, 28.
