not good with computors...im an x-commercial fisherman of 10 yrs. lost my boat and home as result of fishery changes. i moved to kelowna to start over. i ran into an old fishing buddy and started renting his downstairs suite. he mentioned that i would be a great steerer for dragon boats. never heard of it. didnt want to see another boat anyways. he persisted until one day in peachland i saw the boats in action. two wks later im on a team. then two. then on every boat i could handle. i was on fire. my life seemed to mean something again. i had reason. i voluntered with my buddy to help set up race courses. spent time at meetings. did anything i could to be involved. travelled everywhere with teams and new friends. spent money i didnt have. my mother, who is a survivor. is on a team too. my mom is a wife and mother of fisherman. she hates boats. lol. then...recession. i found myself having to put dragon boating aside this last summer. i hated it. but. kept in the loop by observing festivals and times on here. now as time moved on i am able to return to k-town and knowing the season is over. i went on kdbc fb and put it out there that i am able to start a competitive team for next season. i got a responce from a man, not on thier forum but to my email that i gave. it was a very threatening message in simple words. i dont take that to lighly. i found myself alittle dumbfounded and angry. after all 8 yrs of dragon boating made me believe i was equal. now i dont know what do. so, i thought someone would lend an ear and maybe give some guidence to a better way of dealing with this ugly situation.

Perhaps they mistook your intentions and thought you were trying to steal their paddlers.  You did, after all, post that on their team's facebook page.  Post your invitation here instead:  http://www.dragonboatwest.net/index.php?board=13.0
Good luck with your recruiting.
Also, instead of creating a new team, maybe advertise that you're available to steer for teams in Kelowna?

I read your post on the KDBC FB and I too would have been offended if I was a member of that club. If you have serious aspirations to be on a competitive team then find one and join it or start your own which is what I think you are trying do. I would recommend posting on forums like this one and not individual club forums. You may have better luck.

Good luck with your search.
