Well, the films are here for the first Vancouver Festival of Ocean Films, and we have our work cut out for us!
We are very lucky to have some superb entries from the world over documenting threatened wildlife and environments from Alaska to Chile to Portugal, surfing from Tahiti to California to South Africa, and, paddling in Antarctica and Australia. Stay tuned...
About the Festival:
At VFOF, our goal is to inspire and stimulate people to explore their relationship with the ocean by bringing together local and international filmmakers and presenters in a multimedia event and juried film competition.
We aim to raise interest and awareness of the ocean not only as a place for positive recreation, but also as a place of sustainable and responsible commerce, and a wilderness to be respected.
Through the broad scope of films and presentations, we intend to instill a degree of education and understanding of oceanic conservation issues, especially those relative to Canada’s coastal waters.
The Festival will feature exhilarating films showcasing ocean sports such as sailing, paddling and surfing, as well as inspiring films highlighting the ocean environment, culture and exploration.
The inaugural Vancouver Festival of Ocean Films event will be presented at The Hollywood Theatre April 16 & 17, 2010.
