For those that haven't been on the Victoria site recently, the grid is up...

Be sure to check the site again before the weekend as the grid may change.

See you all in a few days!  Let's go sun!

how does one obtain the entire race grid, opposed to just the first heats?

Go to the festival site www.victoriadragonboat.com, hunt around the drop downs (I think it's team info or race info or something like that) and the schedule should be there, of course it all builds on your first race but at least you know on paper how late things are scheduled.

Looks like the race organizers have made amendments to the race grid. Latest update done today. Quite a few revisions so if you're racing this weekend, double check to make sure you've got the right grid and the right start and heat times. Newest grid can be found here:

WOW only 77 teams registered by my count.  Is that a low for Victoria?  Isn't there usually close to 90?  This is one of the best venues to paddle at.

I also noticed that a lot of the comp place division teams on the mainland are not going to be there?  No Masters, No Magnum, No Pemberton...

Don't get me wrong there are still great Comp teams from

The Island like Navy Dragon Anchors, Xtreme Reach, QF Blu By U, Dragonauts and Precision Impossible

Portland has great teams like Hampton Woods and Portland Firedragons

Calgary as well like CDBC Crew Yahoo and Topmade Fusion

Comp A Finals Prediction

1.   Hampton Woods
2.   Navy Dragon Anchors
3.   Xtreme Reach
4.   Portland Firedragons
5.   CDBC Crew Yahoo

Other teams that might break the top 4-5 spot – Dragonauts, RGL, Topmade, and Precision Impossible

Could be because teams like Masters and Magnum had originally signed up for Seattle which was only a week after Victoria

Yep, was supposed to be concentrating on Seattle.

In any case, I think BC Ferries fees is overly expensive, IMHO.

And now you know why a lot of Island teams don't race on the mainland often!

lol indeed.

We were lucky last year because the BC Ferries had a booth at the Festival and were handing out free Ferry tickets for answering their surveys..So we only had to pay for the car fee on the way back...Saved us a huge amount of money haha

Just got back from Victoria and it was an awesome weekend of racing!
SO many super close races and of course the beer garden was great (if you could get into it.... Mad)
Results are on the Vic DB site
http://www.victoriadragonboat.com/assets/Race~Results/DB'08_PM_sunday_final_Race_results[1].pdf

Managed to snap a few a shots here and there
Saw this other dude with some nice Nikon gear (Lens envy.....drool...) I think he was taking the Group photos and had a nice printer on site (2 of them) and also pulled out a few cannons to shoot the races.
Anyhooo....here are a few shots of the finals
Navy took top honours but Portland and Club Yahoo made them work for it.

Navy in 3, Portalnd in 4, Yahoo in 5

Navy eeeks it out!

Grandmaster Final

More pics to be posted on site later tonight

Cheers til Last Gasp and Kelowna! (or maybe Portland or Penticton.....Any one need a paddler?.. Very Happy)

Thanks for the congrats, Illuminate, and thanks to the all the Platinum teams who at no point gave the impression that they couldn't have easily taken first place.  I know some will be out for blood in Portland and Kelowna.

By the way Butter (hopefully you're getting some rest now), please pass on Navy's deep felt appreciation for all the excellent volunteers this year.

It's so awesome to see a Calgary team not only make it into the Platinum A final, but to come out with a podium finish!  Way to go Crew Yahoo!!
