A small fleet of ten person dragon boats are currently at Plaza of Nations as part of the World Police and Fire games. These ten's, made by Swift Racing, are temporarily on loan from Portland but here's hoping some find a permanent home here. They're fun little boats to paddle in ... and even more fun to steer.

We used them on friday morning going head to head . The boats get to speed fast and the tend to slow down quick when you let up as well .They also pull awesome turns but the downfall is the foot bracing in the centre seats is brutal .It's made for either the very tall or the short and if you are say 5'8" to 6 ft then it is difficult to brace unless you have long legs or short .

Either way they were fun to play in

There may be a regatta next year that uses both db20's and db10's. It'll be called the 2010. The 10's will be kept at DZ.

no joke...  Shocked

From Ann Phelps via gunhaggis's post re: Last Gasp in the Tackboard ...

Our second announcement is that next year the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society is investing in six new 10-person dragon boats. This will add a new element to our events and the Dragon Zone practice facility and we're really looking forward to getting them in March of 2010.

Was steering these all day at the WPFG practices and races ... they were very fast and respond quickly to everything, feel tippy loading but no more so than a 20 buk on the water. Noticed more pronounced indications of left/right timing and strength imbalances e.g. one team was rocking slightly and needed compensation; another was straight line, light as a feather on the tiller. Turn on a dime. Sportscars of dragon boats. Would like to see them go over a 500m course ... and guts and glory turns.

The 10 person Swift Dragon Boats used at the WPFG were purchased by the CIDBFS yesterday and are now moored at Dragonzone.  I believe the plan is to use them at the Last Gasp Regatta next month.  This should be an extra fun event with these new toys.  Laughing

Guess somebody found the right *$$ to kiss....    Cool  Shocked

Ooh, that doesn't sound too good coz that's the height average of the male paddlers..

So I'm guessing that the expected date of March 2010 for the new six 10-man dragon boat has been changed to yesterday? haha

lol, good job to whoever got them here (it doesn't matter whether ass kissing was involved or not haha)

Sooo...does anybody know if we can start using those boats? Wink
