Who is in for the first dragon boat race of the season? Too bad the North Van sprints are the same day, may cause some conflict for teams.
Predictions???

My predictions:
1. False Creek Mixed
2. Edgewater (formerly DWW)
3. Sudden Impact (whichever colour is their top team, black I think?)

Anyone have anymore news on the dragon boat huli at Deep Cove today. This was on CKNW around lunch time:
Flipped Dragon Boat
Vancouver/CKNW(AM980)
4/26/2008
Twenty-two people have been pulled out of the water at Deep Cove.
A dragon boat flipped at a regatta being held there.
The Coast Guard says everyone was pulled from the water safely...two people are being treated for mild hypothermia.

Strange?? The exact same thing happened the last time this event was held in White Rock. A boat swamped and the remainder of the event was cancelled. It was a disappointment for the team I was on at the time who had come over from Victoria.

It was caused by inexperience and not the conditions as this team had never been in a BUK. It was a very unfortunate incident.

Yes, inexperienced team in the Buk that got hit by some waves. One of the paddlers told me tbe wave hit, they all leaned to counter one way, then the other and Bingo, they were in.
The chase boats were on the scene quickly and except for a 1/2 hour delay while they rightsided and bailed the boat, The event continued. Fortunately no one was imjured.
I was the tent debriefing one of my teams and missed the action...
(No pics .sorry...)
however I will post some shots up later tonight.
It was an awesome day and event!

Yes I missed it as well. I heard that everyone was quickly pulled from the water and Waters Edge did a great job of keeping everything on track and running ahead of schedule. Kudos to Jackie, Kat, Kerry, and crew for running another great event along with all the great people/volunteers at Deep Cove. We'll definitely come back next year and hopefully the weather will be as awesome as it was yesterday.
With Waters Edge running Harrison this year - we're really looking forward to a great event as we know Fraser Valley Club has been bitten with some bad luck but with an experienced race crew, all the great people at FVDBC and the awesome venue of Harrison Lake it will be a great event.
We look to bring both our Comp and Rec crews to the event. It will be in our back yard so expect us to bring our A game.
Race one of the Season was AWESOME! Thanks again to Deep Cove and expect us back next year.

Teamwork is so important that it is virtually impossible for the team to reach the heights of it's capabilities or achieve winning results without becoming very good at it. You must practice TEAMWORK as a team, not as individuals!
