So Alcan will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the dragon boat festival in Vancouver next year. With such a big landmark for the community, I hear that they will be asking the community for ideas and suggestions for the celebration.

My suggestion would be to bring back the teak boats, the 640m distance and race towards Cambie Street bridge... maybe even hold a proper paddler's party Sunday night at Plaza of Nations.

Not sure how i feel about the teak boat idea, but if that "island" and the construction around it is somewhat complete by next year, it could make for a good finishline viewing area, so i think your idea of reverting to the races outward has some merit.

but most of all, YES PLEASE BRING BACK THE PLAZA PADDLER PARTY!!!!  even if its just one last time.  assuming plaza isn't a giant pile of dirt by then of course

Never give a match up halfway through. Never say that you do not feel up to it, that your condition is bad, and throw in the towel. Fight to the very end, always looking for your chance to break through.

Well my friend my first db season was 1992, 16 seasons ago! That would make you what... about 8 or 9 back then?  Laughing Yea we used to party there and if memory serves me right drinks were cheap and plentiful with no running out of any type that was available. But that was then and this is now....sigh!  Confused

Although having it at the Plaza of Nations was very cool too with the various bands that used to play on the old stage. And it kept you out of the rain too. But now that ain't gonna happen! Ah well sign of the times eh?  Cool

Heard this morning on the radio that Cirque Du Soleil will be returning to Vancouver next June through July and will occupy the same site as it did in 2006... and with the construction on the 06 alternate site for the festival, it definitely brings into question what will happen for the festival this year!  Unless they plan to cram everyone into that tiny little lot behind DZ (assuming its still there by then).  Depending on what's happening with the property formerly known as the plaza of nations by that point, perhaps that may be the best spot for the festival next year anyway?
