Blessing the masses....hahahhaa...

I heard a call from either the Announcer or the race official, so I looked back and gestured them - politely....

Great photos, VP.  Brings back great memories of paddling like hell for 2000 metres with 17 teams chasing us.  Where did you find these photos?

The Dr. perscribed checking out Flickr for more pics, and more pics there were.  Some I would have rather not seen, but at least it outlines one of our weak areas, ... paddling. Wink

Looks like someone lost their grip.  Either that, or they really like to choke up on the paddle. Razz

Actually, that's my spare blade that i keep right next to me....it's jammed into the gunwal and the metal bar...if the oar breaks off, I have access to the spare paddle....

You mean you don't paddle at the same time as you steer?  Slacker.

Hmm, I've never actually noticed a steersman do that before.  Not that I've seen an oar or a housing break during a race, but that's a pretty good idea.

I've seen it happen a few times.  In most of these cases I think the steers person would have benefited from having a paddle handy, ... except in those instances where Dynasty's were involved.  We've got them here in Calgary.  These boats can turn on a dime, ... but it gives you little time to react if a steering issue were to occur.  Once they start coming around they are difficult to stop.

Agreed.  The dynasties are finicky little bastards.  Makes me glad that I'm just paddling scum - one of the grunts.

I was sort of wondering what happened to Ren's top hand in that shot. Laughing

Maybe Puppy kicked her off the boat during the race.  I definitely remember him shouting at us something about if we don't get our rear in gear that he'd personally kick us off the boat (of course not in quite those terms).  That would explain the lonely paddle.  Shocked

Good thing coach Jason made us do all that swimming practise, eh, Martini?  That 200m swim to shore probably wasn't even a challenge for Ren...

I was worried we'd ALL be swimming to the shore in that race - not that it would have mattered, I would not have been any more wet.
