Looks like the racing was pretty good for the time of year. Can hardly wait for Alcan and beyond.
Interesting that Without Warning is a combo team. Did they take the best from DWW and Ultimate? I also heard that Without Warning is the DWW team that will be going to Calgary for the race offs. Anybody confirm this?
Looks like an interesting season already.

if Without Warning is doing that, I would hope they steal people from DWW cause they were beat by them today.

The Sprint Regatta was fun! It's a great way to start the season. Hopefully this will be a new tradition for Vancouver dragon boating.
Wonderful that the sun came out.
I was preparing for rain.
Nice that ADBF/Dragon Zone was serving up hot dogs and had coffee, juices and pop available. Even ADBF General Manager Ann Phelps was grilling the hot dogs.
A German Public Television crew from ZDF TV followed us at the regatta, doing a travelogue show about Vancouver. The storyline is how dragon boat races and festivals encourage multiculturalism. And that Vancouver is "leading edge" in Canada for cultural fusion. They interviewed several team members and by coincidence, the "hapa" daughter of one of our mixed-ethnic couples, came to paddle with us on Saturday.
We are asking the ZDF TV producer for some of the 200m sprint race footage so that we can give to ADBF for promotional purposes, so hopefully you can see some of that soon. The actual program will air in Germany later this year.
We even did an extra "demo" race with the C Finalists, with a cameraman in seat 1, and only 18 paddlers in a Gemini. That was tippy. When the cameraman stood up during the race for an overhead view, our drummer had to grab his jacket to help keep him from falling forward as the boat surged on each stroke.

If you were hoping to gauge your team against the FCRCC team don't bother because that wasn't the true A mixed crew but just a mix of whoever wanted to play ............. good luck to everyone preparing for Calgary !!

FCRCC A or B or mixed it's still False Creek and that's a good guage for anyone.

What it shows you is actually how much work a team is going to need to do if you want to be at the top in Calgary .
There is definately a difference between this FCRCC crew and the top A crew ...... it would be considerable .Don't get me wrong though .......as you said any FCRCC team would be tough

from the line ups of the two DWW crews, it looks like they might have "spread out their forces" as well. perhaps something for False Creek to consider going into future races?

actually DWW looked pretty strong at the sprints. even though FCRCC came out on top it's only by a second. now with that said... even without the top A team it's still a very interesting challenge. a race is a race... it's anyone's game... don't underestimate the competition.

Way to represent FCRCC, Paddleboy! Let everyone know we're unstoppable! We'll beat everyone down with our mighty talking. ok ok .. I kid.
Results looked to be right for the distance. I believe this was the first time 200m races were held in False Creek, except maybe back then when the world championships were here. Someone can correct me here ... it's been so long that I can't remember. Looking at the results, there weren't many teams. Only about 20 teams. I would have expected more teams out, especially for short 200m.
