Does anyone know or think that Dragon Boat will be hosted in the 2008 Olympics in China? is it even possible for it to be featured?thanx

there wont be any official dragonboat races in the beijing olympics but i think there's talk of demonstration races or events  just prior to the start if the games.

nothing to do with the '08 olympics, and probably won't be for a while.  like clm10k said, it might be a demo sport around the time of the olympics, but it won't be part of the olympics themselves.

The major stumbling block comes from the amount of athletes that they would have to house .Imagine the cost of all the countries that enter just 1 team each of say 25 .............do the math .   cha ching ! I don't see it happening ..to expensive to house everyone

Demonstration Sports at the Olympic Games
At most modern day Olympic Games there have been a variety of demonstration sports held as part of the Games, but not as official events eligible for medals. Some of the events have later gone on to become official Olympic sports. Originally, demonstration sports and events were included to showcase sports or events which were unique to the country hosting the Games, but now they are often used as a stepping stone in the application for consideration as a future Olympic medal sport. In 1989, the IOC voted to disallow unofficial demonstration events at Olympics, starting with the 1996 Games.

Demonstration sports were suspended in 1992, as the Olympic program grew bigger and it became more difficult for the organizing committees to give them the appropriate attention, since the IOC required the same treatment to be dispensed for official and demonstration sports. [1] It is unlikely that they will be reintroduced as a requirement for future Olympic organizing committees. However, the Beijing Olympic Committee has received permission to organize a wushu competition, but it will not be considered a demonstration or exhibition sport at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

I heard that if it does get to the demonstration or Olympic phase it will most likely be a ten man/woman sport

not sure how that would work...    besides saving them housing costs/nightmares.  a cross between war canoe and dragonboat perhaps?  with 10 paddlers?
