If anyone is planning on organizing a paddle order of CF paddles (preference is Burnwater) in the next couple of months, I'd definitely be interested.  Drop me an e-mail at [email protected].

 Personally I would get a Apex adjustable .Its as light as the burnwater and you can adjust its length to different boats and positions in the boat and for time trials when your in a oc1 or marathon .

 I have both and I use my Apex all the time now and prefer it over the burnwater .The burnwater gave me index finger problems and it hurt for months until i stopped useing it .Then again I was useing it 4 times a week in practice .I believe the burnwater is more than the Apex now and the burnwater is now solid black in colour because they are useing a different resin apparantly .I would assume because of some problems they were having

 If you want to see or try an Apex or even want to buy one go to the FCRCC meeting tomorrow nite or contact Chis G on the FCRCC mens team as he is the distributor

Ahhh....thanks!   I had originally had my heart set on a Burnwater as it seems to be the preferred choice amongst the competitive teams that I saw, but the Apex seems compelling enough to put it into consideration.

it really depends on what you're looking for/where you paddle in the boat.  the east coast dragonboat forum has a decent/somewhat more indepth thread about which paddles are prefered and for what reasons.  i personally have both a burnwater and an apex adjustable.  i use the burnwater for mixed and the apex for mens.

im interested in the apex paddle and wondering how easy it is to adjust the paddle length.   is it just screws?  heat/glue?

two small screws loosened/tightened with an alan key.  handle slides out, and you can throw on rings to make it longer, take off rings to make it shorter.  remember to clean it every so often, or the salt build up can make the adjusting a pain in the ass.

I am a fan of the Burnwater blade myself. A few years ago in Victoria my seatmate was using an Apex paddle
in a medal race and it broke about 4 strokes into the start of the race. You can well imagine my seatmate's
chagrin when all he had left in his hand was the paddle shaft.  Perhaps Apex has improved the technology
it uses to attach the blade to the shaft in the last few years but being a witness to that event has made me
very wary of the Apex brand. I have never heard of a Burnwater paddle breaking during a race.
Has anyone else out there had any "paddle problems"??

burnwater had problems with the blades bubbling, srs had seperation issues (blade@shaft & handle@shaft) a very few (that i've heard of) apex cracked in few places (blade edges, blade@shaft), and a few brands have had problems with the glue not holding (usually after being left out in the direct heat of the sun)

The Apex you mentioned that broke would have been the budget model and the first run of them.They did have some problems and they were a cheap paddle.The ADJ version does not have those problems

 I too have both the Apex and Burnwater like I said . I like both but use the Apex only now as I like the adjustablity

I use a ZRE and haven't had any problems with it. The Apex adjustable does sound intriguing though. I have to switch to a wooden paddle for the Taiwanese style boats and oh do I miss my CF during these rough couple of months. Boy am I thankful when it is over!!!
