how do you guys get the stench out of your booties?  my gloves manage to stay stink-free, but my booties don't no matter how many times i wash them.  Confused

Thats like squeezing water out of a rock... feet and false creek just don't make a good combo... so just leave them outside to make your life easier.

Well, not sure what kind of "booties" you use so not sure of best way to clean.  You may wish to wash them down and soak them with baking powder or a water/vinegar solution.

However, I have found that Chako sandals are great!  The rubber soles do not absorb much and you can basically wash them off with a hose or just wear them into the shower.  The do tend to "whiff up", but they are cleanable.

Just a thought.

I buy a new pair every season.  Good paddling boots at MEC aren't more than $30, and that to me is worth spending for a new pair a season.  I find the tread wears quickly, just by walking around.

Then again, I am a big dude.  I pity my boots.

If you insist on keeping your booties, I would gather up all my paddling gear (boots, gloves, PFD, leggings, hats, etc.) and take it to The Sports Exchange on Burrard (between Broadway and 4th Ave.) and use their Sani Clean machine.  I use it to clean my DB gear and hockey gear.  For about $20 you can stuff the machine with all your gear (I clean my DB and hockey GOALIE gear at the same time, sans goalie pads) and it gets cleaned in about 20 mins.  The beauty thing about it that it shoots an ozone compound that kills the bacteria on the equipment, which creates the distinct "funk" and "hockey smell".  It doesn't degrade the material at all, as it doesn't use water and heat.  For example, if your PFD has stains, the Sani Clean won't cure the stain, but will kill the bacteria and make it smell better.  Just make sure your gear is dry before using the machine.

I shower with my booties when they're already wet.  I do the same with my lifejacket.  The shampoo and soap seems to keep them pretty decent.
