It would sure be fun to have LML teams at the VI Championships nee Gorging Dragons Funfest. I am quite sure the organizers would like the colour of your money just fine, and paddlers would welcome our mainland counterparts and your stiff competition as always. I'm not at all surprised that it hasn't happened though ... it's a week before the Victoria festival, and even though the fees are a lot cheaper nothing else would be for an out of town team. It's a lot of money for a one-day festival and Victoria the following weekend's a bigger bang.

Looks like the 'Funfest' - although I'm sure it'll continue to thrive and grow - has been replaced by the earlier 250m Sprints. That felt like the Funfest used to feel: just good fun, cameraderie, who cares about official rosters, let's just play together on the water. I've never seen so many people scrambling from one boat straight into another!! And another! And another!

But look at me changing the subject ... sorry Mr Moderator.  Embarassed

Don't forget that the VI championships are run by the same folks who brought us Richmond. So, as long as we're all willing to paddle along happily and trust three guys with timers and no video equipment, then sure!

The 250m sprints in Vic were tonnes of fun, and it would be awesome to see some LML teams over next year.  This was hatched as a way to get Victoria teams a racing fix a) as a warm up for the teams going to Alcan and b) for Victoria teams in general who otherwise may not get to race until July in Nanaimo.  The point is to get on the water and get the racing in.  The 250m distance is great for pure adrenaline rush, and the festival only costs $250 bucks to enter.  And oh yeah, first place overall gets free entry for the VI Champs, which would make the trip over for the later event a lot cheaper should you win the Sprints.  So come on over.  We'd love to have you.  Did I mention that 250metres is a distance raced at the various db world championships?
