As you would know, a carbon fibre (CF) paddle is quite a huge investment and I was wondering about the durability of some of the paddles. I have tried the SRS, Burnwater and Grey Owl and have narrowed my selection down to the SRS followed by Burnwater.

I like the feel of the water of the SRS and the shaft is less slippery. But looking through the forum, it seems there are some issues with SRS snapping?

But I have not seen any complaints about  Burnwater yet?

Just a bit of background - I am based on Asia and the CF paddles are just making their rounds in the region with some entrepreneurial paddling enthusiasts bringing rights to distribute the paddles. As a  result, history and knowledge of CF paddles here are very limited.

I just do not want to put down money to have the paddle snap during races/trainings. Grateful if any CF users or "incident" witnesses could share their experience.

I haven't heard of any SRS paddles snapping.... (yet).  However the main issue with the SRS blade is that they aren't put together very well.  The epoxy they used seems to give out on some of the blades.  Many of the paddles come apart between the blade and the shaft.  I believe the SRS paddles come with a 2 year warranty.  But it's a pain in the a$$ to have to wait for your next shipment of paddle.

Have you looked at the higher performance Apex blades with the adjustable shaft? they make a lower end one that is great as a practice blade.

Having paddled with both the SRS and the Burnwater it all comes down to preference.  Both are top quality and the warranty with the SRS is nice, not sure about one with Burnwater.  If you can manage to get a hold of one of each and demo them then you could decide from there, sometimes festivals have vendors with them for you to do so.  I'm not familar with the Grey Owl but I don't believe they produce an all CF blade but an imitation model that is still $$$.  I would recommend investing the $$$'s to get one, you won't be dissapointed.

I absolutely LOVE my BURNWATER!!!!   I've had it for 3 years & I'm the envy of every paddler I know!  Apparently however the year I got mine they changed the style slightly and those that purchased after got a slightly different model.  The handle was the big difference... Anyway I've tried APEX and sceen the SRS's but none of them hold up to the abuse my fellow paddlers & I have put mine through. At this rate I won't have to buy a new one for quite some time, so I'm getting my money's worth.. Just thought I would say my 2 cents..  Ciao
