Any idea who is entered in the Harrison Races?
It sounds like a good race and nice venue. Anyone know who is running this event as well?

Mr. Weapon......isn't that a misnomer....I believe it's run by the Chilliwack Paddling Club.  I was talking to one of the representatives when I came out to watch your other team at the Lotus race in May.  They are doing it in conjunction with another charity organization as well I believe...always for a good cause which is nice to see.

Harrison was one of the festivals I was very excited to go to, but The Drunk's just couldn't get organized and the idea has been dropped I think.

The inaugural Fraser Valley DBF @ Harrison Lake is being organized in conjunction with the Harrison Arts Festival -always a lot of fun.

As you know, there were two Six-Sixteen dragon boats with Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club, written on the sides. But both were involved in an accident returning home to Chilliwack before midnight on Sunday June 19th.  The trailer jack-knifed at the Mt. Lehman exit, and both dragon boats skidded across the highway, closing down Hwy #1 for about an hour.

Both Manfred Preuss, the club president and his wife were uninjured but shaken up. Their truck and one dragon boat are probably write-offs.

Hopefully teams will come out to the Fraser Valley DBF, to help support the club, so that they can rebuild the 2nd dragon boat, and replace the 1st.  Manfred's plans to add outrigger canoes to the club are probably being post-poned.

As for teams entered in the race.  Gung Haggis Fat Choy is entered.  Expect to see 3 or 4 Chilliwack teams + 2 Fort Langley teams + hopefully the Lotus Sports Club.

Cheers, Todd

I'm glad to hear the two involved are okay, sorry to hear about the boats.  Why don't we donate a couple of gemini's to their organization?  I know they won't be missed around here  Laughing

Any other teams going to this? It sounds like Alpha might actually add to their medal count this year...

So... what happened? It's awfully quiet for being after a regatta.

The Harrison regatta went quite well for an event being held for the first time.  The weather cleared up in the afternoon which helped out a lot, parking was easy to find, and the Miss "Drag"on boat contest was a riot!

As for the racing part of it, there was a good mix of teams there and generally everything went quite smoothly except for the super long waits at the start line... i think in our 2nd race we were waiting out there for about 10 minutes.  And the bottom of a few boats were extremely dirty and had barnacles on them which accounted for some odd times for some teams who happened to be in those boats.   Other than that it was a fun little regatta.

In the finals the teams racing were Alpha Dragons, TD, Swordfish and Sudden Impact.  In the end, TD finshed first, followed by Alpha and  Sudden Impact.

Kudos to the organizers from the Fraser Valley DB club for putting on a great 1st time event! The water held out (except for the tsunami we enjoyed Friday night at the Campsite!). Barney the Purple DB made (I Hope) his final appearance at any races when he magically appeared at the dock in Harrison to scare the Vancouver paddlers who know and love him well..... Twisted Evil
There a few starting glitches but overall they over came them and kept the races running smoothly. It was good to see the local area teams (and there were a lot of them!) and it is nice to see DB flourishing outside the lower mainland and congrats to Sudden impact who I believe were the Trojan Warriors for finishing third and being a great host team and class act as well.
Missed the barrel race but if they promise better weather next year (for the campers) I'll be back!

Where did Roli finish up?  Afterall they are sending their team to Calgary for the race-offs, did they not make the final?  Seems hard to believe, though I did note Roli and Alpha were in the same first heat.
