hmmm interesting race grid....
I wonder how they made this one up and how they ranked the teams.
Quite a variance of calibre in the Comp and Rec A......
I see some good teams in the lower heats as well.......veddy interesting

The dog/seal is still out there!  I was out on the water tonight and first it was a seal then it turned into a brown lab chasing a stick in the water under Cambie Bridge.  Be very very carefull    Shifty

It all comes down to a team requesting a specific session.  I know the team I am close to chose Saturday even though the organizers would not have put them there.  The reason for that is because some people have lives other than DB  Shocked

So I wouldn't read too much into this.  Some of those teams must have requested a time.

Lethal, you got the Soggy (cross between a seal and a doggy) ready, Legacy is on Saturday morning, I am pretty sure they want to see if they can hit the thing this time  Laughing

I have to agree with Lethal.  Some of the seeding between the sessions is rather.. odd. I noticed that Grandragons are racing in the SAT PM session?! Also, it almost looks like the Sunday Sessions should be switched around since the majority of the sunday morning teams are high school teams.

It should be interesting to watch the 2nd race of SAT AM. SUCCESS and Legacy did a race today during their practices and they were pretty much neck and neck going down the Creek. My vote on the "Don't Miss" heat of the first round. Especially if Soggy makes another appearance.

Judging by the seeding.. the organizers want to see FCRCC Mixed, Pacific Reach, Roli Canada I, Specialty Subaru Legacy, Team SUCCESS, and Alpha Dragons Red in the A Final.

I looked at last year's regatta and Sunday mornings traditionally have the High School teams going.  If you look at the festival that is also the case there.  I remember being told that the reason the organizers put them in the morning so that the kids can go home and study for provincials.  I wonder if the kids do though  Laughing

Also looked at the other sessions from last year and the same thing as this year, it looks like they place a team in the session requested.  Not sure how they figure out which session if you did not request a particular session.

Oh well, it will be interesting on Saturday morning, dog or no dog.

I was actually referring to the name of the time slots for Sunday...
REC. C & REC D TEAMS AM SESSION SUNDAY
REC. E & JUNIOR TEAMS PM SESSION SUNDAY

I remember when I was racing during my Junior years when Honda sponored the festival. Our tent at the festival was full of textbooks... yet I do recall walking around the site though. Seemed more exciting back then.

So any predictions? Guido?

Looks like the case but you never know!
Slabby (Xcross of Seal and Lab) aside it comes down to who has
their full crews out to regatta...
I know some teams that don't have full crews

Hey all. I coach 2 teams. One is total novice and only will practice a total of 10 times if you include the regatta this coming weekend. But yet they are racing against the competitive crew that I paddle on. This was because of the availability of the crew being there and they decided the saturday morning time was best. But I agree that there should not be too much reading into who is placed where and when for this coming weekend. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

Teamwork is so important that it is virtually impossible for the team to reach the heights of it's capabilities or achieve winning results without becoming very good at it. You must practice TEAMWORK as a team, not as individuals!

Hi regatta teams,

Just a few RACING REMINDERS for this weekend. I'll send this out again before the festival.

•   GPS systems are NOT allowed while racing
•   You may not race with less than 16 paddlers
•   You must have a drummer (it is not mandatory that they drum)
•   For the Mixed Adult Division - your team must have at least 8 female PADDLERS in each race
•   For the Junior Division - your team must have at least 10 female PADDLERS in each race
•   You may use your own paddles and PFDs as long as they meet the criteria in the ADBF Rules and Regulations (online under Race Info Docs)
•   You must wear a lifejacket/PFD and it must be zipped and/or buckled before heading down the ramp to the dock

Items allowed on boat while racing:
•   wax - on personal paddles
•   gloves, hats, sunglasses, kneepads
•   small fanny packs
•   water bottles
•   extra paddles (limit to 2, if possible)
•   seatpads thinner than a mouse pad
•   if in doubt, ask the Race Registrar

Items NOT allowed on the boat while racing:
•   GPS systems
•   wax - on festival paddles (purple stripes)
•   large bags or knapsacks
•   seat pads thicker than a mouse pad
•   Noise “enhancers” – e.g., megaphones, whistles, horns etc.
•   if in doubt, ask the Race Registrar

Protest Procedures - if your team wants to lodge a race protest, talk to the Race Registrar right after your race. All protests must be submitted in written form (provided upon request) to the Race Jury and a fee of $50 will be levied for each protest (rebated if protest is upheld). Please note that "There will absolutely be no grounds for re-races once all boats have passed the 50 meter mark, except one that is initiated by Officials under extraordinary circumstances." For more info on this topic, please consult the Penalties, Protests and Appeals section of the ADBF Rules and Regulations.

Dock / Marshalling Areas
Please be aware & respectful of the flow of traffic set up around the dock & marshalling areas. Please listen to the directions of volunteers, follow the signs and clear out of these areas as soon as possible. This will help us stay on schedule.

Marshalling
•   Teams should be at the crew marshal area (near Dragon Zone) 20 minutes prior to their scheduled race time. Please line your team up back to front, with your drummer and steersperson in the lead
o   **IF YOU ARE IN ONE OF THE FIRST 2 HEATS OF THE DAY, please be at the crew marshal area 30 minutes prior to your scheduled race time
•   You will pick up your equipment (paddles and pfds) in this area and then wait until one of our volunteers directs you to the dock
•   IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOUR DRUMMER AND STEERSPERSON KNOW WHAT HEAT/RACE NUMBER YOU ARE IN. You will either be in a Gemini heat OR a 6/16 heat. But don’t worry, we will be reminding you about which heat you are in each step of the way
•   Once on the water, please head directly to the start line along the south side of False Creek (i.e., you will leave the dock and turn left right away, going in a clockwise motion and staying clear of the race course)

I know all of you have been waiting for someone to do this but time is running out, so Lets do it.

So who will win each division at the regatta?
Top Comp
Rec A/B
Rec C
Rec D/E
Top Junior

Let's see who is a good judge of paddlers/teams?  Any dark horses?

Afterwards we can do the same for Alcan.

It will be hard to say who will win each division as you've stated Tigger.....because each session has a mixture of each division. Our newest member on this forum whom I've nicknamed the "EASTERN EXPERT" has stated...our WESTERN waters are tidal and will affect the outcome throughout the weekend....(which I won't disagree with.....and I still believe he should throw a few races if he really really wants a medal instead of boasting he came in 6th overall).... Hence to say that if we predict one team racing for a Div "A" final on Sat AM session it's time can not be compared to that of a team we may predict  for a Div "A" final on Sun PM session.  Does this make sense?

I believe what you meant to say was....who will win in the final of each session....am I correct?  And yes....LOOKING very much forward to doing the races in 2 weeks!!!!!

If you are saying Fastest Team = Fastest Time (this clarification is also for Jing Du who loves to bring tidal effects within racing in our WESTERN waters) then I beg to differ with you on that one Paddle"boy"....I would probably clarify that what you meant to say was.....the fastest team in the FINAL of EACH session will win.

You see.....you (and I mean your team PR) could have the fastest time but not necessarily in the final race....thus not making you (and I mean your team PR) the winners....I hope that makes sense.

Sat AM - FCRCC Mixed, Pac Reach, ROLI I
Sat PM - FCRCC Grand Dragons, Just Dragon Along, Team X-Calibre

Sun AM - Layoam Eagles, Eric Hamber Eternal Dragons, TD Lightening
Sun PM - CIBC Imperial Dragons, Burnaby Tsunami, Kryptic Storm

Jnrs - Some team from Pemberton.
