Got this in the email inbox today. You may be asking why I am posting this in the Docks?
As stated before by other posters, I am one of the many that believe that the best way to improve your paddling technique and to become a stronger paddler is to spend more time on the water. Here is an option for those that are suffering from dragonboat withdrawal or just want to improve for next season.
Dear Paddler,
We noticed that over the last year you have taken at least one of FCRCC’s paddling orientation classes. We would like to inform you that we have just entered into our 2005 membership year and we think you may want to take advantage of the great news we have at FCRCC. We have reduced our fees to join FCRCC, we want to make the sport of paddling more affordable to those who want to pursue paddling as an activity in their lives.
At the AGM in September the membership fees were set for the year. We have included them here for you to review.
Adult Fee (born before 1987)Club Fee: $ 95.00
Equipment Fee: $120.00
Total: $215.00
Student Fees (born before 1987, you must be a full time student, must provide proof when signing up)Club Fee: $ 76.00
Equipment Fee: $ 96.00
Total: $172.00
Junior Fees (born after 1986)Club fee: $ 50.00
Equipment Fee: $ 60.00
Total: $110.00
As you can see the fees to join have been reduced and we are hoping that you take advantage of these fees to join now and paddle year round at FCRCC. With these fees we also encourage you to bring your friends and have them join. In addition, if you took an orientation course last year and did not sign up to become a member it is not too late to use the $50 credit you earned, by taking the orientation program. The credit is good for one year.
When you sign up there will be various programs that you are eligible to join. These programs may have coaches that are paid. These fees are collected from the paddlers in the program and have been set at the AGM also. The additional fees set for those programs that request for paid coaching:
One coaching session per week: $80.00
Twice a week coaching: $125.00
Three times a week coaching: $170.00
These fees are for a 6 month period (October to March/April to September) and are payable at the beginning of each 6 month session. You will pay your coaching fees when the program has decided on the type of coaching. Please remember that if the program you join does not have paid coaching these fees do not apply. When you sign up for a program they will let you know if there are additional fees to be paid.
We allow the payment of your membership dues over a two month period, pay 50% when you sign up and provide a post dated cheque for the remaining amount 30 days after.
Membership forms are available at the club. You can drop off your filled out membership form (please remember to sign the waiver on the back of the membership form) either in the mailbox (in the Outrigger shed) or at the office (office hours Tues/Thurs 5:30PM to 7:30PM or Saturday 10AM to Noon). We prefer cheques or money orders, we do not have the ability to handle cash at the office.
If you have any questions. please do not hesitate to contact the FCRCC executive at
[email protected].
Have a great year of paddling
FCRCC Membership Committee
Please don't think that I am suggesting that a membership to FCRCC is the only way to go. It is only the one that I am most familiar with. Others will have more information on other clubs. I know that Jericho offers an outrigger program as well as Pogue Sports out by Burrard. My suggestion is to try to obtain information on all of the programs and decide which one is best for you.
