For those interested in checking it out, it looks like CTV will be down at Dragon Zone to film two commerical spots and the "Best of BC" spot on Tuesday May 25, 2004 (yes, that would be today...) starting at 4:30pm.
CTV will go out on the zodiac and getting a few shots of the Saint Thomas Moore Knights between 4:30 and 5:30pm. The majority of the filming with be with the Drunk'n Dragons from 5:30pm-7:00pm.
For those curious, the Gemini's (you know... the community's "little orphan Annies" that they so love to verbally beat and slap around) will not be used. Rather, the perennial favorite 6-16's will get the call to center stage.
Congrat's to the Drunk'n Dragons on landing the spot. And relax, there's no pressure, it's not like the whole dragonboat community will be watching your technique, stroke and timing whenever the commercials air. I can see it now... Across all dragonboat households in BC, "Wow.. that's a nice caterpillar.... looks like Seat 4's rushing the rate..."
PS - Whoever is in Seat 4 on Drunk'n Dragons... take no offence, I just grabbed a random number and in by no means do I think you rush the rate.

Why aren't they using the Gemini's Mr. Chaos?? They're faster, smoother, have better glide, look more like a dragon, and are an awesome boat to paddle in (I personally love them...have paddled in them twice and have no complaints about them whatsoever). I'm waiting for the opportunity to steer one though...think that would be a blast too!
But the other day when you saw Drunk n'Dragons doing a practice you said seat 3 on the right looked like they were rushing and caused seat 4 on the left to rush.....so I'm confused ....is it seat 4 on the left or seat 4 on the right that's rushing?
Will they also be doing make up and getting close ups of the team as they paddle? Will they also dress the boats in full gear with Heads and Tails and a drum? I think that would look so cool too.

i'd advise against make-up. it'd get real runny real quick.

Is the topic about makeup or timing issues and how to correct them or just the fact that some "no name" team is wasting a MUCH needed practice to get a publicity stunt?

Zeph.....your agent didn't get back to me.
Your agent also believed that your reach was far more advanced than this team. I agreed but felt your leg drive was a bit weak, then your agent countered by saying he wanted someone with better rotation in front of you because you did have good form with your top arm. I had to counter to say if you could pull a 1:45 time trial I would recommend you to the Drunk n' Dragons. From there we were at a stand still.
Get your agent to get back to me ASAP if you still want the spot....and we can negotiate something.

i'd say the topic could be on both as they will be on tv.
but regardless, which team do you think should be on tv instead?
i vote fodb.

I don't think it really matters on who got the spot. In the first post by Chaos it says (see above) that it is a "Best of BC" and I think as long as Dragonboating is in there, that is good enough for me.
Plus it was done out of Dragon Zone even better, right ZIO

if you think about it, a tv commercial for dboating. Even if there was a really beautiful, graceful caterpillar happening, the general viewing public wouldn't know what's supposed to be right or wrong anyways. So to them, it's all good anyways.
Besides, caterpillars look neat in the boat! It's like doing the wave at a stadium.

I'll just ignore all the negative comments
CTV ended up cancelling because of the incredible rain. They're going to be back this Tuesday.
By the way ... we're not "wasting" a practice - this is great publicity for the sport and for our team, not to mention an appealing presentation to make for potential sponsors. It's also an amazing opportunity for some incredibly enthusiastic and eager high school students who are developing a love for dragonboating.
P.S. The Drunks have 2 teams - Blue Dojo (the "competitive" team) and Green Dojo (the "rec" team). Blue Dojo has more experienced paddlers and we practice twice a week. Green has newbies (for the most part) and practice once a week. FYI

Poohbears smart. So I guess the commercial is supposed to show the 'best things in BC', in which case wow! They chose to include Dragonboat. Now that's cool.
The best team to do this for sure would be the one with the biggest smiles.
Someone should take the effort to dress up the boat with the head, tail and drums, that would be very neat.

Caterpillar...or not...the bottom line is that our sport is being featured, and that's a good thing. But, hey...remember - who's watching, and who's being watched! Don't worry about the timing so much...you'll miss your episode of "The OC".
