May 10, 2004 - A word from the Exec with regarding Alan and coaching at FCRCC
Some of you are aware that on Monday, May 10, 2004 the FCRCC Executive gave Alan three months notice that we were not going to be renewing his contract as a full time employee in the role of Head Coach for FCRCC.
The Executive came to this difficult decision when grappling with the conflicting demands of avoiding membership fee increases while increasing the number of coached programs for members. It is the unfortunate reality that there are only so many hours in a week that can be coached by one person and in addition many of our programs run concurrently further increasing the difficulty of providing consistent coaching to multiple programs.
The solution that the Executive has decided upon is to move to a contract coaching model whereby we will hire multiple part time coaches so that multiple programs running concurrently can have consistent, quality coaching without increasing fees for membership or increasing fees for programs. We have consistently heard from members that they would like more coached sessions and we believe that we can achieve this by changing our coaching model in this fashion.
In the short term there should not be any noticeable difference for FCRCC members. Alan is still under contract until August and will continue to provide his usual high standard of coaching. By early August we expect to have sourced our part time coaches and hope to be providing the membership with a more frequent, well coached sessions. As we get closer to August we will publish a new schedule with coaching times and contacts for each program.
We would like to thank Alan for his hard work and the effort he has put into FCRCC over the last five years. Countless paddlers have benefited from his skill and ability as a coach in his time with us. With high hopes that we could continue our relationship we have offered Alan a Senior Coaching contract but at this time he has declined.
