FCRCC is appreciative of Graham Smith for offering his time bringing these exciting new clinics to the paddling community and supporting the FCRCC Youth Flatwater program.  Please see below more information on the Marathon Canoe Clinics.

BEGINNER MARATHON CANOE CLINIC - APRIL 16, 2016
Learn the basics of paddling in both the bow and stern of a marathon canoe. You will learn the basic strokes necessary to propel and control the canoe allowing you to confidently paddle a marathon canoe on calm water.

EXPERIENCE
No experience in a marathon canoe is necessary. You should feel comfortable paddling an OC1, SUP, recreational canoe, etc.

Location:  False Creek Racing Canoe Club
Time:  10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Cost:  FCRCC Members - $45.00.  FCRCC Non-Members - $55.00.

INTERMEDIATE MARATHON CANOE CLINIC - APRIL 17, 2016
Take your marathon canoeing skills to the next level by learning enhanced stroke mechanics, boat control, tactics and water reading. After completing this clinic you will better understand how to make a marathon canoe go fast with less effort.  You’ll be ready to train for races or just use the marathon canoe (or stroke) as part of your training toolkit.

EXPERIENCE
Participants should be comfortable paddling a marathon canoe in bow and stern positions; experience with other rudderless canoes also acceptable.

INSTRUCTOR
Graham Smith has been paddling competitively since 1989. He paddled at the national level in sprint kayak as a teenager and after university began branching out to other disciplines. He has competed for Canada at 5 world dragon boat and 2 world sprint va’a championships. For the past four years he has focused much of his paddling efforts on marathon canoe races regularly finishing in the top 8 at Triple Crown events including 2 mixed division victories. He currently holds the record for the highest finish for a mixed team in the 82 year history of Quebec’s Classique Internationale du Canots which is the most prestigious marathon race in North America.  He is a certified as a marathon canoe coach by the Coaching Association of Canada.
