Hi Everyone,
FCRCC will be hosting a Novice OC-6 Steering Course on February 8, 2015. This course is designed for paddlers who would like to learn how to steer an outrigger canoe in a safe and supportive environment.
The course will include a classroom session that will cover the basics of steering:
· The roles and responsibilities of seat 6
· How other seats relate to steering
· Safety issues to be aware of
· The basic mechanics of steering strokes
· Information about steering blades
Following the classroom session will be a practical on the water steering session (travel to Burrard Marina) with a qualified steersperson in each canoe to coach and assist you. By the end of the course, you will be able to steer an OC6 at a practice with your regular program.
No previous steering experience is necessary but basic/novice level of outrigger paddling is required.
Please bring your regular OC6 paddle, any steering paddles you may have and your PFD.
